This started at the end of last summer on my '06 RSTD. Thinking it was needing new plugs I waited till this season. Well new plugs didnt fix it. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd and sometimes 4th to 5th I get this pop from the right side. And I think its both cylinders b/c its sounds like a double pop. Ive had this bike for 4 yrs and never carb sync'd could this be my issue. I read on these forums that dealers dont do it right either so wondering if I should do it my self.

Im in eastern Ohio is there a maintenance day coming here soon

I have the same problem with my 02, more of a bang at times on deceleration, I did sync carbs, thought exhaust leak, pulled right side apart, new gaskets, front cylinder tube is carbonned so I am trying plugs next even tho I know PO chanced them last fall.

I am open to other ideas also.

Yes, they try to do minor maintenance on the bikes. Used to do big jobs, but it takes up too much time. I'm sure someone could get you fixed up.

I have not been to a maintenance day, but I did read that last year's motto was

"Ride them in Push them out". :080402gudl_prv:

I am sure someone will be able to help if you go, I would go if I could get the time off.

Your problem and fix is relatively simple; although, there are several possible causes. The root cause is nothing more than incomplete burning of the fuel in one or more cylinders. Carb sync alone could be the problem, but more likely it is a vacuum leak or high resistance in one of the plug caps. The vacuum leak comes from old rubber caps on the vacuum ports (they MUST be changed every couple of years), or possible a nicked vacuum hose on the other ports.

There are other possibilities, but check the easy and most common stuff first.

Well it runs good down the road. Its just during the shift points I mentioned. Im only an hr and 45 min from Oberlin so looks like a road trip on the 8th

is it restricted to RS. My brother in law rides a Suzuki Boulevard and going to see if he can make the trip. And what amount of $ can I expect to pay for any maintenance just so I make sure I bring enough money

I have never been but understand entry fee is a gallon of ice cream ! :thumbsup2:

It is not restricted. Your brother in law is more than happy to join you. There is a BBQ lunch catered on Saturday and there is a donation can if you wish to help with expenses. The maintenance is "members helping members". There is no charge at all. You are expected to help out to the best of your ability and not just sit back and expect things done for you. :) It will take me or somebody else about 10 minutes to sync those carbs though. :thumbsup2:

When ever you get there till when ever you leave. Saturday is the main maintenance day. I will bring my carb tune. I had same problem with my last rsv. we can check a couple of things that can cause this. Also many other folks will be there that will be more then happy to help. Look me up I ride a RSV trike named RockinRobin. Looking forward to meeting you.

The AIS system has two vacuum operated control valves. One for each side of the exhaust. If one of these valves looses vacuum or becomes damaged it could cause this problem. It is usually an easy fix. Many people disconnect or bypass this system altogether. But it does not use any power to operate so disconnecting it serves no real purpose unless modifications have been made to your engine.
