Big Lou Posted June 1, 2013 #1 Posted June 1, 2013 kicking and bucking on a trip ,never touched a screw one on carbs while it was down , put in berrymans like i was told ,started it shaking gas whole , 1/2 tank to whole can when i was done , last night after soaking and letting sit 4 hours each time , she is running great CANT LEAvE NOTHING ALONE it was idleing just a little off third time ,,still spitting this morn ,I pull the air cleaner after seeing all the talk of diaphrams,,,,,,, all diaphrams work the same at all rpms crank it up , noting over 2500 unless i feather it . choked all carbs to suck 'TRASH'... last night i hit lightly the ends of carbs with a small rubber hammer ,only one made it die i dont think there ever was trash and it had a vacuum leak the whole time this morn, i find 3 vacuum leaks and the tube for crank case vent wasnt on the filter bottom fixed all that now i think i am at 75 or 80 % wiil absolutely wont idle should i turn up idle ?????? ,,,,,, i think it is running fairly OK wished i had another to listen to DONT WANT IT TO RUN AWAY AND HAVE TO STOP IN TRAFFIC
pmelah Posted June 1, 2013 #2 Posted June 1, 2013 glad its running better for you i plan to go thru everything with a fine tooth coe when i can replacing all rubber hoses seals the works
Big Lou Posted June 2, 2013 Author #3 Posted June 2, 2013 I thought i did,,,,,,, Just wont idle, think too much cleaner when it was vacuum Let me know when you get home ..............jedi595@gmail.com Think i really shortened the lifespan of the starter,,,may have to get a good one from here Sure aint going back into town again,,real waste of time and gas for me
Flyinfool Posted June 2, 2013 #4 Posted June 2, 2013 If you had air leaks and fixed them, it is realistic that you will need to turn up the idle.
Squidley Posted June 2, 2013 #5 Posted June 2, 2013 Anytime you do any playing with the carbs, it is a good idea to put a carb sync on it. Many of us here have bit the bullet and purchased a Carbtune. I use mine ALL the time, and there are many here in the Houston area that are happy I have one they can use. One of the best tools I have spent money on. I would second also that you turn the idle up slightly.
Big Lou Posted June 2, 2013 Author #6 Posted June 2, 2013 i am fixing to do just that , it started raining yesterday when i got the opprotunity to ride if i can get it to idle , today I am going riding in Talladega national forrest ,,, I live on the edge of it sure is a peacful place:cool10::cool10::cool10:
KIC Posted June 2, 2013 #7 Posted June 2, 2013 One other thing is that if you still have a heavy mixture of cleaner in your gas, it can make it run a little worse. Maybe dilute it, or drain it, and try straight gas for now. That way you are tuning it to a regular gas mixture. You can reuse the mixed gas later on.
Big Lou Posted June 2, 2013 Author #8 Posted June 2, 2013 Yes it still has the mixed it it,,,,,,now three days,,was going to ride it same day Didnt, occur to me. Till now, ,,,i may of diluted the gas it too much
