camos Posted May 31, 2013 #26 Posted May 31, 2013 My brother in law, suggested going to brazil, and having the work done. airfair & a place to stay, for the work to be done was cheaper then going to a local dentist by thousand of dollars Heard the same thing about Mexico. Have a couple of friends who got the work done just across the border from Yuma AZ for 1/3 to 1/2 what it would cost here. They are happy with the quality of work.
CaptainJoe Posted May 31, 2013 #28 Posted May 31, 2013 $1,200 for just the root canal... a bunch of blood sucking leeches!
Mike G in SC Posted May 31, 2013 #29 Posted May 31, 2013 $1,200 for just the root canal... And, they do it in two hours in their office with no outside help. At least a crown has "parts and labor". But, after they do it you are so releived you say "Fank you".
dkip Posted May 31, 2013 #30 Posted May 31, 2013 Had two root canal and two crowns done in Bangalore India for 418.00 The dentist did look somewhat like the fellow in the above video. But actually had it done three years ago and everything is still good Dale
Condor Posted June 1, 2013 #31 Posted June 1, 2013 I've had a bunch of root canal/crowns done, and every one of them has failed after about 5 years. Then they want more money to extract the tooth.... Dentists get you coming and going... So now the inside of my mouth is a train wreck. I have been looking at having the bad ones replaced with this new post and crown replacement. Supposed to be much cheaper than implants, and a one day turn around too. I've had cruising/sailing friends that have had work done in La Paz MX for about a third of the price stateside. Fly down for 3 days, have the work done, and lay on the beach for a couple of days drinking Cervesas. Most of the dentists down there are graduates of a US dental school. And now I'm back. Started this post about 14 hours ago. Garage sale stuff is now set up and tomorrow hopefully will be a big day... Whew!!
leo3wheel Posted June 1, 2013 #32 Posted June 1, 2013 Implants can take a very long time, many months. Old tooth is extracted, and bone graft is done. Time is required for bone to grow enough to cement in a post for the crown. Even my root canal, post and crown will probably take about a month. Involves initial visit, two trips to surgeon, post installation and crown fitting, crown manufacture and lastly crown installation. My dentist is cautious, but his work lasts a good long time.
bill4you502 Posted June 3, 2013 #33 Posted June 3, 2013 As to dental implants, I'd check with the nearest college/university dental school as they usually accept patients for their students and the prices are somewhat less expensive.
etcswjoe Posted June 3, 2013 Author #34 Posted June 3, 2013 As to dental implants, I'd check with the nearest college/university dental school as they usually accept patients for their students and the prices are somewhat less expensive. MUSC Dental School says they are 20% less, I will have to see what they can do for me.
SilvrT Posted June 6, 2013 #35 Posted June 6, 2013 I just remembered ... I have my old dentures still. They're in fair shape and the teeth are ceramic (you can't get that anymore apparently) .... I'll sell 'em real cheep!! (crap, now I'll get bombarded with PM's )
