Barrycuda Posted May 28, 2013 #1 Posted May 28, 2013 Credit to Miles for this idea... I went to Home Depot and got a piece of tin with the pattern I like the best. Not much to choose from. Then I trim, and mount. Held by zip tie. Not supposed to rust, but holds firm. Was easy and cheap.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted May 28, 2013 #2 Posted May 28, 2013 Looks like it blocks 75% of the air from going thru...
ditchdoctor Posted May 28, 2013 #3 Posted May 28, 2013 Spend the money. buy a nice one. You will be much happier!
kantornado Posted May 28, 2013 #4 Posted May 28, 2013 How bought air flow?? I do agree it does look neat, but not allot of circulation of air that I can see.
Barrycuda Posted May 28, 2013 Author #5 Posted May 28, 2013 Hmmm. Got me wondering on the air flow....back to drawing board
Miles Posted May 28, 2013 #6 Posted May 28, 2013 Barry, pay no attention to all the behind the screen wizards that have not seen your radiator screen in person. I can personally attest to the fact that the screen that Mr. Brooklyn Bling Barry is using is fine, and DOES allow enough airflow through the screen. Other than the fact that Booklyn Bling Barry got the wrong COLOR (colour for you Canadian folks) of screen material, it is exactly what I used to make my screen...same pattern of material, but I used the Black one, not the Silver one. Brooklyn Bling Barry has this hangup on wanting his bike to sparkle...oh..that could be his new screen name...Sparkle. Anyway, Barry, the screen you made is fine, it has enough airflow, and you should be happy with what you made. Good on ya, Florida Brother
Miles Posted May 28, 2013 #7 Posted May 28, 2013 How bought air flow?? I do agree it does look neat, but not allot of circulation of air that I can see. I am not certain, but...I think you meant to say, "how about air flow? I do agree it does look neat, but not alot of circulation of air that I can see". Maybe you just got caught up in a Kansas Tornado, and got twisted around.
playboy Posted May 29, 2013 #8 Posted May 29, 2013 Hmmm. Got me wondering on the air flow....back to drawing board Best drawing board you can have is some test rides in all kinds of parameters and prove the nay sayers wrong. I know your man enough to speak up if it doesn't work. Nothing wrong with being creative.
djh3 Posted May 29, 2013 #9 Posted May 29, 2013 At one time I thought about using wire screen door screen to keep bugs and stones out of the rad. I used a piece of lath on the wifes Durango when we got it. Somone had knocked a hole in the plastic one.
Wade 2000 Posted May 29, 2013 #10 Posted May 29, 2013 I think it looks good!! I've been thinking of getting some chrome or stainless mesh and making one. Don't pay Miles any mind. Every time he gets something nice somebody shoots it or backs over it :rotf:
Barrycuda Posted May 29, 2013 Author #11 Posted May 29, 2013 Thanks to everyone regarding your posts and take the time to interact with me. Wade, ever since I met Miles in Tennessee , he's upped the ante on his busting chops. Little does he know, that the only other color in that pattern was an awful greenish/ gold. THEY DIDN'T HAVE BLACK MILES !!!!!! Not about the bling, sir... Test riding it seems like a good idea. To me, there seems to be enough slots to allow airflow. I looked at some basic radiator grills and although stylish, seemed to leave a lot of space for rocks and sticks. But this is why I come on this site, to get both sides of the coin. Thanks miles, playboy, wade and the rest for your input. P.S. Miles.... It not about the bling, that's why I left Brooklyn.
buddy Posted May 29, 2013 #12 Posted May 29, 2013 Barry I was there when you two were talking about protecting the radiator and I have to say that's really cool !! Think of all the money Miles saved you...
Yama Mama Posted May 29, 2013 #13 Posted May 29, 2013 This girl thinks your grill is great! Yama Mama

Miles Posted May 29, 2013 #15 Posted May 29, 2013 THEY DIDN'T HAVE BLACK MILES !!!!!! Whoa, what happened to the Black Miles ? I know where the White Miles is, but...what happened to the Black Miles? Oh, No, we lost another member of our Miles family:rotf:
SilvrT Posted May 29, 2013 #16 Posted May 29, 2013 Credit to Miles for this idea... cheap. I'm astonished that Miles would suggest cheaping out on such an important farkle
kantornado Posted May 29, 2013 #17 Posted May 29, 2013 Don't really think I'm a dunderhead but was giving a honest opinion. Never any need for name calling for observations. I truly hope it works out and it will be a real valuable alternative for allot of us.

djh3 Posted May 29, 2013 #21 Posted May 29, 2013 Barry with all the money you saved, cant you atleast afford to buy Miles the entire frog for dinner? Also you have a black one installed. You just forgot that part of the accessory at the store. Its in the paint dept called "black hammered" paint. lol If you like it cool.

I truly hope it works out and it will be a real valuable alternative for allot of us. Then I will apologize for the collective name...dunderhead. I thought it was funny, and was meant as a joke, in jest. Apparently, you are not a dunderhead.
MikeWa Posted May 29, 2013 #23 Posted May 29, 2013 As an active member of 'dunderheads not very anonymous' I must say I like the grill. You will be able to tell if air flow is a problem by the fan cycling. It should come on for a while then cycle off. If it stays on then Mike
darthandy Posted May 29, 2013 #24 Posted May 29, 2013 At a guess, I would think that the airflow should be sufficient, although a run through death valley at noon in August might strain the cooling system a bit. Most of the grill guards I've seen seem to cover a fair amount of radiator area and they don't seem to cause a problem. I have a Star cover on mine which covers a surprising amount of area and there have been no problems so far. Don't forget folks ... only a certain amount of air makes it through the radiator area anyway since the rad itself stops some of it. There are quite a few openings in the guard and they are well dispersed so my two cents worth says that it should work well in all but the most extreme situations. Then again, I thought the Montreal Canadians had a good shot at the Stanley Cup this year, so ... Andy

If it will keep Miles quiet, ( and who doesn't want that? ), I will get to the black paint dept ASAP...
