Change all the fluids. This includes brakes and clutch.Dont even start it until you have changed the oil and plugs .Pull off the wheels and check the pads.Pull the seat and check for everything.Check all your wiring.Animals like to chew wires. A new battery is in order.Your carbs will need help.

Thats a start.:backinmyday:

83-84's are notorious for losing second gear. Not sure how you would check for that with the bike not running though. Also carb diaphragms go bad. My 83 diaphragms were ripped when I opened the covers up. Replacement ones were thicker.

After sitting that long good thing is to pull plugs an soak in marvel mistry oil or,my fav. Liquid wrench, frees the rings,so no scoring, rather smoke, or pparts,,spin motor, before starting,,without plugs

Yup! You have a lot of work cut out for you but trust us, once you get it running you will be glad! 47K is hardly broken in for these engines, many have made it over the 200000 mark. You will most likely need carb work, yes oil into the upper cylinder area to prevent breaking a ring, and flush ALL fluids, clutch, brake, cooling, etc. Definately flush your gas tank, drain the carb bowls, replace the fuel filter, etc. You might luck out and get it to fire up without doing much to the carbs, and if you do, add seafoam to the gas, it's a wonder worker.
