Well i just got back from a 4 hour ride around the finger lakes with the Greater Rochester Patriot Riders. We all left Waterloo N.Y. at 10 am and headed south down Cayuga Lake on Rt.89 to Ithaca. There were a little over 100 bikes but it was well organized and ride captains helped keep the group together. We detoured around Ithaca proper and then headed up Rt.379. I road I'd never been on before but is full of hills and great curves. We stopped in a little town called Enfield where local Boy Scout set up drinks and snacks for donations. There were also 4 porta-potties that got extensive use. I ran into a guy from Rochester riding a pristine Blue 83 with less than 15k on it. He bought it last year from a gentleman in Pennsylvania with only 11k on the clock.

I told him all about us and recommended that he join. I also mentioned the infamous 2nd gear problem which he'd heard about but knew no details of when or how it happens so i filled him in. But with any luck he's still got about 30k before he has any trouble.

The bike was beautiful with Steel braided brakelines and Sanded and polished engine cases. Just gorgeous. He says he dropped the bike in his trailer last year and bought a left side mirroe from someone in western Canada. Was that one of us? There were at least three other ventures in the Group and one or two royal stars But I didn't see any locals like Steamer or Robin, NyJerry,Jayceefolly or some of the others.

Anyway it was sunny but cool and a great ride. We enter the new Veteran cemetarynear Samson Park and did a once around before getting back on the road. Lots of people stopped to wave and salute as several bikes carrying old glory passed by. Then we all headed back up to Waterloo where some had a lunch that was all part of the ride. I headed to a friends house before heading home. all in a ll a great Memorial Day run.

Phil:

I was there but didn't complete the ride because my stator went out and my battery died. Rode back to Rochester on just the battery. I pulled the headlight fuse before I left Waterloo and that helped on the battery drain.

Have a new stator on order and hope to be back in business by the weekend.
