craigatcsi Posted May 25, 2013 #1 Posted May 25, 2013 I stopped at the local Autozone this morning to get some oil for the bikes. I have always used Mobile1 or Yamalube. Well anyway, I asked if they had Mobile1 for Motorcycles. When they told me the price I was stunned!! Holy Cow!!! Is the Motorcycle version THAT much more expensive or has oil REALLY gone up!? I am going to have the wife pick up some regular Mobile1 at Wallyworld when she goes there Wed.. Craigr
greg_in_london Posted May 25, 2013 #2 Posted May 25, 2013 When was the last time you bought Mobil1 ? For either cars or bikes ? It has been that price or much more for years over here.
Peder_y2k Posted May 25, 2013 #4 Posted May 25, 2013 Use Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic as a permanent replacement. Available at Wallyworld for around $22/Gal.US I use the Rotella 15/40 T3 dyno oil in my bikes. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA '83,88VR
djh3 Posted May 26, 2013 #5 Posted May 26, 2013 I paid $10.99 a qt today. funny thing, I got a coupon in the mail as part of the rewards member thing. It had a coupon for 5qt of Mobil1 for $29.99 So I go in and get my 5 qt of V-twin mobil 1 20w50. Fellow rings it up and it dont give me my discount. Seems the coupon is only for auto oil. So I got just 2qt. Then went down the block to Wally world and got a gallon of Rottela. Came home and put 2qt of 20w50 in and topped off with T6. summer I usually run a couple qt of 20w50 due to heat down here. I have read so many threads on weather or not you can run the car oil and which ones it makes my head hurt. None of the Mobil1 oil I saw had green caps anymore. And I think even the 15w50 oil I saw says energy conserving so thats out.
Miles Posted May 26, 2013 #6 Posted May 26, 2013 There is NO need to buy Mobil 1 that is specifically made for motorcycles. I have cases of the stuff in my shop, that I buy from Costco, when a coupon has it on sale, and I usually pay about $ 6.00 a quart, by the time you brek down the cost of a 6 pack case. All I buy is the regular automotive Mobil 1 oil, in eithetr 10w-30, or 5w-30. It is a waste of money to buy the motorcycle specific Mobil 1 oil.
GeorgeS Posted May 26, 2013 #7 Posted May 26, 2013 If you have a Costo store close, as Miles said, best place to get it. Normally about $36.00 a case , and about every two months or so they run it for $10.00 off with coupon in their flyer book. Also, Wal Mart has it for pretty good price.
djh3 Posted May 26, 2013 #8 Posted May 26, 2013 So which one of the 10w30? If running the cage oil couldnt you run the 10w40 or the 15w50 stuff to? http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/mob/102992/image/2/http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/mob/112917/image/2/ http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/mob/103535/image/2/http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/mob/102990/image/2/ Got a coupon for 5 qt for $30 @ autozone. If I can use the cager 15w50 I may go pick some up @ $6 qt
Miles Posted May 26, 2013 #9 Posted May 26, 2013 I use the one in the upper left corner. I was actually trying to CLICK on it, as if you wrre letting me choose it in a poll. There is no need to pay more money for extended life oil, or high mileage oil, or anything else. All they have done is put additives in there, and re-package the labels on the bottles. Too often people...cars drivers, bike riders, truck drivers...everyone...buy into the hype being pushed my media companies as to why you need this, or that. Just use the plain old grey bottle of 10w-30...for your cars and bikes, and you will be happy. The only change I would make is IF it were a diesel, then I might use something else.
Barrycuda Posted May 27, 2013 #10 Posted May 27, 2013 SAMs club which is walmarts version of Costco has the exact mobil1 Miles is writing about 6-1qt bottles, $36.72 which is about $6.12 per bottle.
djh3 Posted May 27, 2013 #11 Posted May 27, 2013 So for grins I look up the MSDS for the 15w50. Under hazardous materials it says "zinc dithiophophate" LOL That cant be bad for what we want right? The $11 qt V-twin oil shows the same concentration of it. LOL None in the 10w30. Still the Rotella T6 Syn for about $22 gal is a decent buy ($5.50 qt)
JDaniel Posted May 28, 2013 #12 Posted May 28, 2013 Advance Auto has Shell Rotella T6 for $22.99 with a $5.00 rebate that you can either mail in or do online which drops the price to $17.99 Looking forward to meeting everyone at Freebird's maintenance day.
Ozlander Posted May 29, 2013 #13 Posted May 29, 2013 Mobil 1 says it's motorcycle oil has additives for the transmission and is made for wet clutches.
aharbi Posted May 29, 2013 #14 Posted May 29, 2013 Mobil 1 says it's motorcycle oil has additives for the transmission and is made for wet clutches. and you believed them?
