GeorgeS Posted May 25, 2013 #1 Posted May 25, 2013 Ok folks, the B-17 just made a low pass over my house at about 500 feet. !! Not sure which one it was, but I guess we are all being well protected !! Ahhhh the sound !! Love that sound !!! :cool10:
Snaggletooth Posted May 25, 2013 #3 Posted May 25, 2013 Makes ya wanna dig a foxhole don't it. Several years back at the air show here they had a squadron of P-51's make a low level pass over the crowd. That would make you either run for cover or stand there with your mouth hanging open.
mbrood Posted May 25, 2013 #4 Posted May 25, 2013 The Confederate Air Force makes a yearly venture out with their birds, both as a gesture of history and an opportunity to actually get a ride up on one... if you get a chance it IS worth the ticket!!! Those gunners were MEN... look at the altitude and the temps they endured... no stewadess, no fliks, no restrooms or comfy blanky for your lap... restrooms were forgotten when you spotted a ME-109's nose pointed your way... lots of things became secondary real quick. Enjoy Memorial Day and take a few moments to show respect and appreciation in the way you see fit. http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/b17.jpg
gmarshall Posted May 25, 2013 #5 Posted May 25, 2013 Got a ride in the 17 last summer when it was in Ohio. It was worth the $400. My father in law did 25 missions in the 17 out of England. He died 3 years ago. Those guys had some serious chops!
b2dad Posted May 26, 2013 #6 Posted May 26, 2013 HOWEVER...have you seen the B2 Stealth fly over? How about @ 3000 feet...over your HOUSE? WITH YOUR SON FLYING IT??? Yup... Also been inside one. Also been inside the simulator. Never actually been in one and left the ground...only simulated. But they are awesome planes.
MikeWa Posted May 26, 2013 #7 Posted May 26, 2013 Hi George I was out and about today as well when it came over. I captured a couple of pictures. Enjoy Mike
djh3 Posted May 26, 2013 #8 Posted May 26, 2013 Those guys were some kind of pilots. We had a friend that was in the formation that did the deed n Japan. He neveer did say where or if his had the actual bomb. But still those had to be some hardy fellas. Got to rub elbows with some at different airshows I attended with my waircraft when I was active duty. Them chopper pilots from Nam wernt quite rite either. Different dudes but sure am glad they were there. Thanks to all my military brethern.
