Trailer Question

Recommended Posts

I found a site that offers a trailer kit with 12" wheels and leaf spring suspension for $650. This price includes shipping to my home. This kit does not include the cargo box butg does have a swivel hitch. I priced the cargo box at sears for $189. This site also offers the same kit with torsion suspension for $850. My question is this---is the torsion suspension worth the $200 difference?:confused24:

Here is the link http://www.alsmotorcycleaccessories.com/20_cubic_foot_kit_trailer.html I have sent and received several emails from Al, the owner. I purchased a cooler rack from him last year. I too have looked at the Piggy Backer XL. But the price works out to be about the same. By the time you add the swivel hitch. Also, the lady at Piggy Backer told me the other day that the price will go up $100 on the XL on March 1. I am soooooooooo confused about what I need compared to what I want in a trailer.:bang head:

A xl piggybacker costs about the same, 850 or so...complete but no swivel. I have that and like it for its value, size and handling.

Perhaps this should be a new thread but I presume eveyone interested in pull behind trailers will read the thread anyway due to the subject matter. I just bought the last XL Piggybacker available. The new model will not be available for about a month, will come with LEDs and a nice chrome bumper - all for only $100 more than the old price. I understand that the shape of the shell is also a little more rounded on the top.

BTW I have a Harbor Freight trailer that I use to haul my bike and didn't want to put another together to pull behind the bike. I also figure I would have as much in the kit as in the purchase I just made.

Call me lazy

I looked that them but they do not offer 12" wheels and after talking to the guys on the trailer forum, 12" wheels and torsion suspension are the way to go. I will keep looking. If I purchased the Piggy Backer XL, where could I get a swivel hitch for it? The Piggy Backer company does not offer one.:2143:

The trailer shown on the link appears to be a $150 Harbor Freight that was painted black and a cooler rack added.

I thought the HF trailer was a little wider than it needed to be and some cut it down....from the looks of this, it may have been cut down already. To some without all the tool needed to do such a project, that may be worth the money.

I've got a Piggy Backer. Love it. Have used it for the last 3 years all over the Tennessee and Ky mountains. Have taken it on the I to Milwaukee. I never even know it's behind my bike till I look. I did have a closure hasp break ( my fault). I left it unlatched and walked into it. I called the folks at Piggy Backer. They sent me 2 new ones. Got them 2 days after I called them. They would not let me pay for them. They just said "thanks for buying from us". They are great folks with a great product Also their frame is heavy welded square steel, not bolted together. A friend bought a BushTec. That's a very nice trailer too. It's a whole lot prettier, but holds no more than mine. Doesn't tow any differently. Doesn't keep stuff dryer or neater. Just cost a whole lot more! His may last longer, but for the price, I can easily replace the box many, many times, if I ever need to. He spent over $3000. I spent $600. For the price, I'd definately buy from them first. It's kind of like the Harley thing. Pay more for the same thing or less cause they're prettier or have the name. JMO

My 8" wheels track just fine and I still have the original bearings with no apparent wear. The design of the trailor and proper loading are the keys to performance not the difference in tire size. Also Neosho offers a swivel hitch at competative prices if you choose to go with the piggyback. Not to beat a dead horse but the Neosho has the torsion suspension as an option and is a feature I suggest because mine has it and is a significant improvement over leaf suspension which my last Neosho had. Happy trailor hunting!
