Trader Posted May 18, 2013 #1 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) The bike I bought last summer has run VERY rarely during the time I had it. I fired it up to demonstrate that "Yes ...it does run" and shut it right down again. The guy liked it and took it home. When Al took it home he did a few quick fixes and found out there was no oil in it. ( I have to admit I never even looked...my bad) He put oil in it....ran a few hundred yards down the road and back and was very happy with the bike. BUT...next morning the oil was all over the driveway! He said it's not the filter and seems to be further back from the oil drain plug. He hasn't got a hoist to lift it (until Sunday). Any suggestions on what it might be? I really hope it's something minor or I'll have to buy it back and have 2 parts bikes! Edited May 18, 2013 by Trader
dingy Posted May 18, 2013 #2 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) Picture attached is of the bottom of motor, front of motor to the left. Not much back there to leak. 3 good possibilities. 1st is oil pan has come loose, there are 12 cap screws holding pan in place. 2nd is that oil level switch seen in upper left corner of pan is leaking and running back along pan. 3rd chance that pan has been struck and cracked. Also it could be a leaking shift shaft or gear position switch in 2nd picture. right in center of picture also shown is a drain bolt that will drain about a pint of oil, not much but looks like a lot on the floor. Each time rode, the pocket that this bolt drains would be refilled, a few times and all oil would be depleted. Pocket will only be refilled when motor is running. Or also the lower cap screw on middle drive cover will drain similar 2nd pocket, it could be loose or missing crush washer. Gary Edited May 18, 2013 by dingy
dacheedah Posted May 18, 2013 #3 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) crush washer is missed alot, it's cheap and should be replaced each oil change, also I am a fan of torquing that oil drain bolt to specs 31 ft lbs and for the filter 12 ft lbs. washer part number is 214-11198-01-00 just a note the mechanic at the stealorship carries the yama and he said he uses honda's washer thats the same size because they are half the money, made by the same company and he buys them in bulk. Since the new bike is under warranty I use all Yama's parts. Edited May 18, 2013 by dacheedah
