mlj1111 Posted May 16, 2013 #1 Posted May 16, 2013 Hi. New thread. Would anyone know the interchange on motors between years? 96 Royal Star xva13a. How new can I go? Any compatibility issues between going from a 96 to newer? Yamaha either does not want to take the time to look it up for me, or are just acting clueless. Thanks in advance. Also if there is truth that the motors are completely the same between 96 and 01, ( from trolling other threads but unconfirmed ), please confirm that I CANNOT use a Venture motor. Thanks Mike
sandman Posted May 16, 2013 #2 Posted May 16, 2013 just joined forum, but there are motors with and without counterbalalnce shafts. make sure you get the one you want.
pofarm Posted May 16, 2013 #3 Posted May 16, 2013 Any of the Royal Star motors will bolt in. The problem comes with the carbs. The early ones used 28mm carbs and the later ones used 32mm carbs. You will have to make mods to use a motor with the 32mm ones, as the throttle cable are different and the air cleaners won't fit the 96 frame configuration. There may be other problems that I'm not aware of with the carb fitment. I believe the newer motors also used a TCI with a different timing curve. IIRC, a motor from the following bikes is a direct replacement. 1996 ROYAL STAR - XVZ1300AH 1996 ROYAL STAR - XVZ1300AHC 1996 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ1300ATH 1996 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ1300ATHC 1996 ROYAL STAR XVZ13ATH_ATHC ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ13AH 1996 ROYAL STAR XVZ13ATH_ATHC ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ13AHC 1996 ROYAL STAR XVZ13ATH_ATHC ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ13ATH 1996 ROYAL STAR XVZ13ATH_ATHC ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ13ATHC 1996 XVZ13THC 1997 ROYAL STAR - XVZ1300AJ 1997 ROYAL STAR - XVZ1300AJC 1997 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ1300ATJ 1997 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ1300ATJC 1997 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE - XVZ1300LTJ 1997 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE - XVZ1300LTJC 1997 XVZ13AJ 1997 XVZ13AJC 1997 XVZ13ATJ 1997 XVZ13ATJC 1997 XVZ13LTJ 1997 XVZ13LTJC (CA ED.) 1998 ROYAL STAR STANDARD - XVZ1300AK 1998 ROYAL STAR STANDARD - XVZ1300AKC 1998 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ1300ATK 1998 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ1300ATKC 1998 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE - XVZ1300LTK 1998 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE - XVZ1300LTKC 1998 XV13LTK 1998 XV13LTKC 1998 XVZ13AK 1998 XVZ13AKC 1998 XVZ13ATK 1998 XVZ13ATKC 1998 XVZ13LTK 1998 XVZ13LTKC 1998 XVZ13TLKC 1999 ROYAL STAR BOULEVARD - XVZ1300AL 1999 ROYAL STAR BOULEVARD - XVZ1300ALC 1999 ROYAL STAR BOULEVARD - XVZ13AL 1999 ROYAL STAR BOULEVARD - XVZ13ALC 1999 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC (CA ED.) - XVZ13ATLC 1999 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ1300ATL 1999 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ1300ATLC 1999 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ13ATL 1999 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE (CA ED.) - XVZ13LTLC 1999 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE - XVZ1300LTL 1999 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE - XVZ1300LTLC D 1999 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE - XVZ13LTL 2000 ROYAL STAR (Yamaha Black) (CA Ed.) - XVZ13AMC 2000 ROYAL STAR (Yamaha Black) - XVZ13AM D 2000 ROYAL STAR BOULEVARD - XVZ1300AM 2000 ROYAL STAR BOULEVARD - XVZ1300AMC 2000 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC (CA Ed.) - XVZ13ATMC 2000 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ1300ATM 2000 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ1300ATMC 2000 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC - XVZ13ATM 2000 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE - XVZ1300LTM 2000 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE - XVZ1300LTMC 2000 XVZ13LTM 2000 XVZ13LTMC 2001 ROYAL STAR BOULEVARD - XVZ1300AN 2001 ROYAL STAR BOULEVARD - XVZ1300ANC 2001 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE (YAMAHA BLACK) (CA ED.) - XVZ13LTNC 2001 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE (YAMAHA BLACK) - XVZ13LTN 2001 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE - XVZ1300LTN 2001 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE - XVZ1300LTNC
mlj1111 Posted May 16, 2013 Author #4 Posted May 16, 2013 (edited) Appreciate the input pofarm. I would prefer a direct swap without any hassles, and using my current carb from the 96. What would work year wise? ( or whats listed actually the direct swaps possible without having hassles with carbs?) Mike Edited May 16, 2013 by mlj1111
M61A1MECH Posted May 16, 2013 #5 Posted May 16, 2013 All non Venture Royal Star motors from 96 to 01 are direct swap for your set up, The Venture motors can be installed into a Royal frame but as stated it takes a fair amount of work. All of the models that Pofarm listed will have motors that are direct replacement for your 96.
pofarm Posted May 16, 2013 #6 Posted May 16, 2013 M61A1MECH is correct. Any of the motors I listed will use your 96 carbs.
