M61A1MECH Posted May 14, 2013 #1 Posted May 14, 2013 I am needing to do a complete harness build for a fellow, and I came across this isolator harness all built into one, at a good price. Trying to find out how long the wires are between the connector and the isolator block, waiting for a return email. So I wanted to see if anyone has tried using this set up on a bike before. http://ecustomhitch.com/i-8202113-tow-ready-119177-modulite-protector.html Thanks
dacheedah Posted May 14, 2013 #2 Posted May 14, 2013 I don't see that it uses a separate power source for the power to your lights. You want one that isolates your trailer lights and has a separate power source so the lights are completely independent circuits.
Flyinfool Posted May 14, 2013 #3 Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) I do not think that this one will do what you want. This is from their website. Integrated 5-flat electrical wiring connector. Fifth circuit added for surge brake lockout or backup light circuit on trailers (some units will come with a 5-way cap. Mounting bracket sold separately)I think you were looking for an isolator for a 5 wire trailer where you have separate brake and turn lights??? This one appears to be for a normal 4 wire trailer that uses the same bulb for stop and turn signals, that also has white backup lights and or surge brakes. You may be able to do a work around to get it to function as you want, but it might be easier to just get one made for what you want. A quick look on line I did not find a 5 wire to 5wire isolator. The only option that I found was to use a 5-4 isolator / converter and then add a a 4-5 converter to get back to 5 wire. The benefit of this arrangement is that you can tap off between the converters and be wired for either a 4 or 5 wire trailer. Or you could whip up your own using 4 relays for the isolation. you will want to use high quality relays on the turn signal circuits due to the very high number of cycles that it will turn on and off while flashing. Use a solid state relay something like this on the turn signals. Or if you are ambitious you could whip up your own solid state one isolator and there might just be a market for it....... M61A1MECH Posted May 21, 2013 Author #4 Posted May 21, 2013 Well I built the harness, using the Tow Ready 119177, I used the circuit that is designated for and normally used on that harness for the back up lights to be the brake light circuit and did not use the red wire. I made adapter harnesses to convert the Venture plugs to Stratoliner plugs so I could connect it to my Venture and do an ops check. Eveything worked fine. The one thing I do n ot like is the isolator is huge, it measures 2.6" x 2.5" x 1.3", I was afraid there would be no p;ace to stash it on the owners Stratoliner, but he tells me he can find a place, so as soon as I finish installing the chafe guard on the main harness off it goes.
