Just a little bragging....my ride, 06 RSTD with Quadzilla fairing....rode it to Texas and back from Viriginia last week, man I was really impressed with pretty much every aspect of the bike's performance.

Cruzing at 80 for hours and hours seemed very much at home for this bike. The comfort .....unbelievable!!!!! The cruise control was a life saver and it worked flawlessly!!!!

Mileage between 40 and 48 a gallon....Just a sweet ride...Im probably preachin to the chior but...

Oh, yeah, then theres this......somewhere in nowheresville...in Arkansas between Texarkana and Little Rock...the screw that holds the shifter on fell out.....Pretty interesting attempting to downshift and the shifter is just flopping around by the linkage....so after searching around the side of the road i stopped on...I found some old fence wire fashioned in a made to order config and hose clamp I had, got me home ..ha.... So watch them screws!!!!

Ya, I have floor boards on my MKII and the bullet nut on the shifter kept coming loose so I did some medium lock tight and carry a couple of extra nuts and washers.

OK, still raining, so checked the bolt on my shifter. It was tight, but, not very !! maby

5 lb of torque at most.

Interesting that, they used such a small bolt.

OK, pulled it out, only about 1/2 inch of threads engaging from the short bolt they used. I checked the hole, and found the hole is about 1/4 inch deeper then the bolt yamaha used.

So, I installed a longer bolt ( cut to fit ) and added a lock washer on top of the large flat washer. I used a bolt with a Hex 10MM head.

And a generous dose of Red Lock tight.

Also it appears, that " IF " the threads were to become damaged on that small bolt, there is plenty of metal to drill out, and thread to the next size larger bolt. ( If need be )

Still raining, ( about 1 1/2 inch in last 24 hours ) , so I also applied a generous dose of Mink Oil to my Riding Boots !!

Next time just use one of the extra screws that are in the side covers, that's why the engineers put them there.

The bolts holding the plastic cover around the ignition switch work as well... same thread and size.

Personally, I would NOT have used RED loctite.... you may never get that thing outta there again.

Blue woulda been better.

I guess Seattle's " no rain fall" record for May has stopped at 9 or 10 days then? :rain2:

I never knew before there was a place that got more rain days a year than Vancouver BC
