bendtdj Posted May 9, 2013 #1 Posted May 9, 2013 OK folks, I have a slight problem. My '84 came with the chrome trim on the gas filler door. I noticed this spring (if there is such a thing) that the adhesive had come loose and all that was holding it on were two small screws it the lower corners. I am guessing that at some point, a previous owner drilled the screw holes. One screw is in the plastic and seems to be holding O.K. but the other has a screw, not a bolt, going into a nut. I have it apart for cleaning right now. What I would ask the brain trust here is what is a good adhesive to hold the piece on? In addition to the adhesive, I am going to replace both screws with small stainless, or chrome bolts. Thanks, Dave
MiCarl Posted May 9, 2013 #2 Posted May 9, 2013 At the auto parts store you should be able to get trim adhesive. It's a thin double sided tape. Put it on your chrome, trim it, remove the backing and install.
Heartbeat Posted May 9, 2013 #3 Posted May 9, 2013 If you are simply looking for a glue, you can get Automotive Trim Adhesive in a tube (instead of the tape) at the auto parts as well. It is for gluing on emblems and such.

This trim ring is sort of rare, I haven't seen many. Gary
Marcarl Posted May 9, 2013 #5 Posted May 9, 2013 This could be a real serious pain for you,,, all the trouble of finding the right adhesive and then getting to stay on. I suppose that's why we don't see that piece very often, most guys just find it a big bother, it needs careful tending, and you always have to keep an eye on your scoot in case it should fall off or go missing. The solution I purpose is to send it to me for save keeping. I have a special spot for such items and would not mind in the least to oblige you. Want my address?
