kevin-vic-b.c. Posted May 7, 2013 #1 Posted May 7, 2013 Was it a Venture or Adventure? Record high temperatures, try to decide what to ride not if to ride.
Snaggletooth Posted May 7, 2013 #3 Posted May 7, 2013 You got to think about it? Pick a card, any card. Now just GO!!! :stickpoke:takethe1stgentakethe1stgentakethe1stgentakethe1stgen:biker:
mbrood Posted May 7, 2013 #4 Posted May 7, 2013 It's a tough problem that will continue. Solution is simple, get three more bikes and assign each one for the day of the week. See, there's always a reason for temptation to come knocking.
XV1100SE Posted May 7, 2013 #5 Posted May 7, 2013 No problem making that decision today ! Went for a 4 hour ride ! I was [cough] [cough] sick from work today. Or is that sick OF work ? Either way.... was a great ride ! Even met another RSV rider (non-member).
Miles Posted May 7, 2013 #9 Posted May 7, 2013 Kevin, what year is your R12GS ? Thatis an R12GS, isn't it ? I "had" a 2005 R12GS, that I sold to my riding buddy that works at Amazon. He is the guy that rode all the adventure rides with me in the last year, and thern...after the ride down to and back from Bolivia/Chile', he bought my Super Tenere', and has now sold the R12GS. So, indentify that Beemer, and the year.
reddevilmedic Posted May 7, 2013 #10 Posted May 7, 2013 miles, how many miles did you put on Tenere? please do a write up! I looked at a 2013 last week, in white...didn't like the red stripes, but, dealer only gets one, so I couldn't demo it like I need to.
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted May 8, 2013 Author #11 Posted May 8, 2013 Kevin, what year is your R12GS ? Thatis an R12GS, isn't it ? I "had" a 2005 R12GS, that I sold to my riding buddy that works at Amazon. So, indentify that Beemer, and the year. Miles, the R12GS is a '12 it is my brothers but I think I have put nearly as many miles on it as he. It is his second one, first was an 08 or 09. He got 60,000 Kms out it then dropped a valve and destroyed the motor.... dealer made him a deal and he ended up with this one and the shirt was still on his back but fully unbuttoned. He dropped this one last June and fractured his knee, low speed not a big thing, he got clearance to ride again and took his small bike (gs500) out and crashed it big re-broke the knee and fractured his shoulder as well as removed much flesh from knees and elbows. He has just had surgery on his shoulder 3 weeks ago and will likely not be riding this summer. BMW says that the bike needs to be used to maintain warranty. So I am the nice little brother helping out keeping his BMW in good order for him. Out of the four of them it is my least favorite, mostly as I am too small for it I think, needs to be lowered some if was mine. I love the V-Strom over the R12GS but I know the V has limited abilities by comparison.
Miles Posted May 8, 2013 #12 Posted May 8, 2013 miles, how many miles did you put on Tenere? please do a write up! I looked at a 2013 last week, in white...didn't like the red stripes, but, dealer only gets one, so I couldn't demo it like I need to. Red, I put 42,000 on the 2012 Super Tenere' in just a couple days short of 1 year. So, for all intents and purposes, we can call it one year. You know...I am not big on write ups, as there are other riders that do much better than I at waxing poetic about the bikes. I may ride a lot more miles than they do, but they write more words than I do. I do not want to switch places with them. I sold the Super Tenere', because I learned the expensive lesson...after trying the BMW R12GS, and then the Yamaha Super Tenere', that when in gravel and dirt for long distances, one does not need or want a large displacement engine. You never really get to run the engine at the desired sweet spot that it was designed to be run at, when off the paved roads. I do not like to ride a bike for 10 to 20 hours a day, using less than 50% of the engines potential power. I have decided that my next adventure bike will be a wee-strom. In my opinion, the DL-650 is the most utilitarian of bikes made today. It can be used for so many purposes, and does so well at so many of them, that it is the Swiss-Army Knife of motorcycles.
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted May 8, 2013 Author #13 Posted May 8, 2013 I use my DL 650for commuting and quick single riding trips. Usually the Ventures for 2-up. DL is an awesome general purpose bike. My commute is 5miles round trip.
