ChurchBuilder Posted May 5, 2013 #1 Posted May 5, 2013 I have a 1884 Venture and I just broke one if my spark plug caps. I don't really want to buy a new set of wires but can't find just the caps. (I don't know what to look for either).
Freebird Posted May 5, 2013 #2 Posted May 5, 2013 Most people replace them with NGK caps. You should be able to find them at most any auto parts store. I don't have a part number but you can probably just take one in and match it up.
StarFan Posted May 5, 2013 #3 Posted May 5, 2013 I have a 1884 Venture,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,. Now that is interesting,,, Is it a pre 1st Gen ?,,,,
Snaggletooth Posted May 5, 2013 #4 Posted May 5, 2013 Yep, got mine from a NAPA store. Just matched them up. At the time I bought chunk a solid core 7mm plug wire from the bulk roll and made a whole new set of wires. I mean as long as I was in there ya know. But one cap and trim the wire back a 1/4 of an inch and you should be good to go.
Prairiehammer Posted May 5, 2013 #5 Posted May 5, 2013 I replaced the wires and caps on my '83 with a spark plug wire set intended for a 1994 Suzuki Swift, AutoZone #189740, -9741. Caps were molded on to the wires. The wires are carbon core (resistor). One thing: the plug caps require spark plug nuts screwed onto the NGK plug ends.
csdexter Posted May 5, 2013 #6 Posted May 5, 2013 (for completeness only) The part number for the spark plug cap(s) (all 4 identical) on a '84 XVZ1200DL© is 4G0-82370-21. Current OEM & new price is about 14USD, places like eBay may have it for less.
timgray Posted May 6, 2013 #7 Posted May 6, 2013 Anyone know if the NGK ones that have the window on them do they work just fine or does that added spark gap for "show" cause any issues with our really low power ignition system?
ChurchBuilder Posted May 9, 2013 Author #8 Posted May 9, 2013 Found NGK XD05F at Iron Pony. I'll let you know how they work.
cimmer Posted May 10, 2013 #9 Posted May 10, 2013 Here is a link to Dennis Kirks online catalog with the different NGK spark plug caps. https://www.denniskirk.com/search/NGK+Spark+Plug+Cap.q They show all the different ones. When using these you need to use solid core nonresistor wire as the caps have a 5K resistor built into the cap. Hope this helps. Rick F.
bongobobny Posted May 10, 2013 #10 Posted May 10, 2013 Now that is interesting,,, Is it a pre 1st Gen ?,,,, Yes Jonas, it was waaaaaaaay ahead of it's time... Have a banana!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:
