leo3wheel Posted May 5, 2013 #1 Posted May 5, 2013 Someone asked to see a better copy of my avatar. The attached picture is the best I can do from this '69 picture. I'm sitting on my '66 Yamaha 250 Catalina YDS3, oil-injected 2-cycle.
Dano Posted May 5, 2013 #3 Posted May 5, 2013 That's a good pic, nice to see one from the old days! Thanks for posting it!
abusive throttle cranker Posted May 5, 2013 #4 Posted May 5, 2013 I had one looked just like that- in blue. Mine was called a YM-1 I think. Also called the 305 Cross Country. Used ta whoop up on Honda 350s. Of course I only weighed about 130 lbs at the time!
leo3wheel Posted May 5, 2013 Author #5 Posted May 5, 2013 Stopped at a dealer in Mississippi last year, and he had a lot of old bikes.
abusive throttle cranker Posted May 6, 2013 #6 Posted May 6, 2013 Yeah thats it- the 3rd pic. It had a left side kick start on it. Just for giggles- the 305 Honda Super Hawk had a right side kicker- but it went clockwise! Yup- ya kicked it foreward! That Honda Dream u show there is the 160cc version.
frankd Posted May 6, 2013 #7 Posted May 6, 2013 I also had a Black & White YM1 (305). The first time I pulled the heads to de-carbon the heads and piston tops, I found 2 head gaskets installed on each cylinder. I put it back together with 1 and the added compression woke the beast up. This one was very fast. My brother bought it from me when I bought the TX-500. He rode it a while and trashed the transmission. I found him another 305 for sale, and he bought it. This one was timid. My 305 used to foul spark plugs all the time, hated to run below 4,000 RPM, and like to keep the front tire up in the air. The 2nd 305 had no top end power, never fouled a plug--heck, it hardly smoked at all. Night and day difference.
CaptainJoe Posted May 6, 2013 #8 Posted May 6, 2013 Lookin good Leo! Wish I had pics like that from back in the day! Looked like you were up to something.... LOL
leo3wheel Posted May 6, 2013 Author #9 Posted May 6, 2013 Had so much fun on that 250... Yes, was always up to something.
bill in mn Posted May 6, 2013 #10 Posted May 6, 2013 Fun to see the old stuff. My first road bike was a 74 Yahama TX 500 royal blue and I drove the wheels off that bike. 80,000++ miles . Thanks
Yamak Posted May 6, 2013 #11 Posted May 6, 2013 Had a brand new yds3 back in the day, I want to say it was candy apple red and cost me 700 dollars. Had a lot of fun in the sun and made lifetime memories in the green mountains of Vermont with that bike. Standard riding gear was cut off jeans, sneakers and a tee shirt, that coupled with no training and little experience or supervision, sometimes wonder how I lived to ride 50 years!!!
leo3wheel Posted May 6, 2013 Author #12 Posted May 6, 2013 Interesting, rode my yds3 in the White Mountains of NH. Rode this bike throughout the year, even in snow. Leather was required for survival.
