I'm looking at buying the spy 5000m motorcycle alarm for my 84 Gen 1 since I will be taking it on long hauls this summer. Does anyone have any feedback on these units?

Looks interesting, however I've never had a problem with any type of vandalism or attempted theft while spending the night in a motel on the road. I do make sure the bike is covered with a cheap black light weight cover. Keeps the bike out of sight, and curious minds away. Plus the cover costs about $20 bucks. I might also add that I don't even use the fork lock... Yes I do take the keys out of the ignition.... :whistling:

Yep I have a cover & I do have both a u-bar lock & a caliper lock but I'd sleep better with an alarm. Not really the bike being gone is an issue but the inconveniece of being stranded.

What can I say, I'm from NYC...we don't trust ANYTHING!

I have had bad luck with the china alarms. I gave up and now only go with what the pros install in cars at Dealers and shops.

CodeAlalrm for cars and Chatterbox for the bike. works perfect and is loud enough to wake me. Problem is all bike alarms go off during thunderstorms. so when a Tstorm is coming you disarm.

I'm a firm believer in the bike alarms. I'll tell you a story. Several years ago a group of us with about a dozen bikes took a trip to Pikes Peak. I had an alarm on my bike. We stopped and spent the night at a motel enroute. The bikes were all lined up in a row in the parking lot and some guys came by and started pushing them over. When they got to mine, my beeper went off and I shouted "the bikes", someones got mine. The shouts got carried through the building. Everyone jumped into their jeans and headed down the halls and out the door. You'd have thought a bomb went off or something if you'd seen all these people rushing out of that motel all at once. Scarred those punks anyway and their car went racing off when they saw us all rushing out. Other than maybe some dings on some of the bikes, mine got the worse because they dumped it over on the left side with the kick stand down and broke the windshield. Hard telling what they would have done if that alarm hadn't gone off. I just recently got a new alarm system for my trike and will install that if this weather ever warms up.
