No.....Not me....the bike :D. When the Moderator is on Duty, She hears something Rattle like something's loose in the trunk. When Riding solo I can hear it. It only seems to be on the sharper bumps where you get a "pot hole" type bump but not nearly hard enough to bottom out or hit pipes or anything like that. It's subtle enough that I can't hear it most times when she's on back but can when riding alone. We've looked for every loose hinge, latch, bracket, pushed, pulled, whacked, thumped everything we can without damaging stuff and all the "test rides" eventually prove it's still there.

Not a big deal as long as it's this hard to find I'm confident nothing's going to fall off and cause us (or followers) to crash, but just wondering if anyone else has some experience with this same symptom on their RSV?

The only thing I haven't taken apart are the rear speakers. I suppose it could be a loose speaker or something like that and I do have one that rattles a bit at high volumes and or with more bass but it's not enough to really bother me.......but maybe it could be the culprit......hadn't really put those two things together till just now.....

Do you carry stuff in the trunk or in the side bags? maybe it is banging around in them. One other idea could be your side stand if the return spring is weak it will bounce causing a clunk.:080402gudl_prv:

Yes we do carry some things. We emptied the trunk because it seems to come from up higher than the side bags but I suppose those and the side stand are worth a look. Thanks for the ideas.

I think strickly from threads I have read the trunk area is your best bet. 4 screw hold the trunk in place if memory serves. They have a tendancy to work loose. Also the helmet hooks on the back. Antenna mounts, how about the hand rails beside seat. I know you probably have looked at most of this stuff. What about the fender mount bolts? Speakers could be it but I would think they would clank/rattle all the time.

ok I can't resist did you ever think it's because your bike has no class?

Definitely look at the trunk mounts as well as the radio box's one might have vibrated loose

No one has mentioned a dry rear wheels. That was the first indication for me when it was time to remove the rear wheels to clean and add grease.

You mean the splines ?

The axle bolt ?

Just wondering what caused it on your bike.

Yeh, thats what I thought - The splines and hub. I do that every year and the bike is silent as a ,,,uhhhh,,,Lamb ? (english is not my native language :whistling: )

Have looked all over the trunk and to no avail. No the floor is not cracked, radio component is solid, does not have the floor support mod, all trunk bolts and hand rail bolts are tight, antenna also. Have not checked the trunk support bracket for broken welds but will. As for the rear wheel, just had it off for bearings and tire replacement, greased axle, and splines, didn't know any better on the hub?

It really sounds to be up high. We always want to blame the trunk lid when we hear it, but we make sure to shut it tight. This wasn't always the case when we got the bike because one latch doesn't always catch and we have had to stop and reshut the trunk......so now we are in the habit of making sure it's completely closed when were in there.

Good stuff folks and thanks, I'll keep looking! May just be the nature of the beast. If I can keep the Moderator on the back it won't bother me as much! LOL

I think i remember the cb unit is a box in a box. If so, i bet the unit itself is rattling in the hard plastic box that bolts to the trunk rack. I just had my trunk off and did not look. I have the exact same rattle and it drives me nuts and only thought of this after reading your thread. Maybe someone can verify the box in box of the cb. I will look for pics when i get back on computer.

Yes the cab is in a plastic box under the trunk held down with two rubber straps just like the ones holding the battery.

I always have my music cranking and the pipes cracking so its a little hard to hear if I have any rattles

Well maybe someone with more recent experience will chime in. If not, I will take the CB off and check it out tonight.

You would not believe what I have done to beef up the trunk. The 99's like we have are terrible on cracking the trunk bottom. So, in effort to stop the crack  and cure the rattle or so I thought) I fabricated a metal trunk pan bolting it inside the trunk under the forward face brackets where the pocket's attach and to the latch mechanism under the black plastic cover and to trunk mount holes on bottom.

I will look for pics tonight. Used thin sheet of mild steel from tractor supply, $13, made template and got to cuttin. Also added a piece of 18ga steel under trunk/on top of rack.

Will redo it to be full width inside some day, but as of now, my trunk does NOT bounce or move.

Have plastifix on the work bench too (thanks Rod) and will fill dem' cracks soon!!
