Quicksilver Posted February 10, 2008 #1 Posted February 10, 2008 I have a 2005 RSV and it was sunny and some what warm yesterday while I was changing my brakes. So I thought I would put the battery in and go for a ride. I had it all winterized well you know the carbs were draind and the battery was takin out. So all went well at first at least while I was ridding. But then when I shut it down @ my mom's and then restarted it up. Then when I started to take off it stalled twice. It was almost like taking off in second but it was in first. But then after I had it out on the road it started to take off better. I did notice the gas tank was almost full but not all the way could condenstate have collected in it. I did change plugs to NGK Iredieum. Sorry about the spelling I tryed to gap them @ .035 But I broke the center conducter on one and had to replace it. So I just left them all alone and installed them the way they came @ about .032. It seems to run alright now thats why I thought it might be moister in the tank. Just thought mabe one of you guys might have had this happen before Thanks for any thoughts. Quicksilver
Eck Posted February 10, 2008 #2 Posted February 10, 2008 Its very unlikely that the gas in the tank is that bad, but it is a good possibility. Doubt if moisture set in the tank, (any thing is possible though), but you might want to try a can of sea foam carb cleaner (Auto zone carries it) and pour it in the gas tank, then top off the tank with some fresh gas. Run that tank out till you hit reserve, then fill it up again with fresh gas.. If the plugs you took out worked ok when you parked it then they should be ok now...Not sure if they are the stock plugs, and being you have an 05 (3 yrs old now) I would change the plugs out next time I planned to take off the gas tank...
Quicksilver Posted February 10, 2008 Author #3 Posted February 10, 2008 Thank you so much for your time and advice I will try the sea foam. I did change the plugs from the stock to NGK Iridium DPR8EX-9. But when I tried to gap them to.035 I broke one of the center conductors so when I went to replace it napa said not to gap them because the conductor was very fragile. So I left them as they came @ .032 I guess I could try to gap them now that I know how fragile they are. The iridium plugs are supposed to last longer because they take more heat. But I wonder if they are really worth the extra $. Mabe I should just go back to stock plugs next time. Thank you very much Quicksilver:bighug:
hig4s Posted February 10, 2008 #4 Posted February 10, 2008 Then when I started to take off it stalled twice. It was almost like taking off in second but it was in first. But then after I had it out on the road it started to take off better. Quicksilver MY 07 did the exact same thing the other day when I went to ride it.. The only thing I can think of is that I left the key on last week and drained the battery, I put it on my charger but this was the first time I had tried to ride it since. Maybe the battery was still a little low? After riding for a while mine did not do it again.
Yammer Dan Posted February 11, 2008 #5 Posted February 11, 2008 These things don't like to sit. A can of Sea-Foam should cure it.
Quicksilver Posted February 11, 2008 Author #6 Posted February 11, 2008 I will try the sea foam, I think it might also have to do with the temp, 47 deg.
nkbjones Posted February 11, 2008 #7 Posted February 11, 2008 I have riden my 07 all winter and have noticed that when it is colder, it needs more time to warm up. I usually let it 'choke' a little longer and then idle longer than when it is warmer. If I try to rush the warm up, she is sluggish for the first several miles. I did have 1 spell of about 1 1/2 weeks that she sat because it was in the teens or rained right at freezing. She ran rough even after the extended warm up, so I ran some sea foam through and good as new. Gas mileage stills sucks, but runs like a bat out of h$#L.
