Are they all built in Japan? I know honda builds(assembles) their goldwings and vtx's in north america so I was wondering if yamaha maybe assembles some of their bikes here as well...thanks

could someone just read what it says on the manufacturers label by the vin and let me know? thanks

I am pretty sure they are manufactured in Japan for the US or Canadian market. They come in a crate and must be assembled at the dealers.

Its a real good idea to carefully inspect a new from the dealer bike!!

The first 3 letters of the VIN# are known as the WMI [World Manufacturer ID & tells where it was made].

My 86VR had "JYA..." as the VIN#. "J" indicates Japan.

VINs that begin with the number '1' or '4' were manufactured in the U.S.

My Wing VIN# begins with "1HF..." Made in U.S.A.

VINs beginning with a '2' were made in Canada...a lot of Fords.

VINs begining with a '3' were made in Mexico....common for many autos.

The 10th digit, or letter, indicates the year manufactured. i.e. 'W'= 1998, with no letter 'O' or 'I', since they look like zero & one.

9th digit is the 'check digit' so a VIN cannot be invented [math formula is used].

The last 5 digits are a sequential 'number', indicating a 'specific' vehicle.

A VIN# can tell where the vehicle was made & the exact plant it was made at, etc.

There is much more to know about VINS, but some is better not being public info.

right, my harley also begins with a 1 because it was made in the US...I just want to know where ventures are made. Japan or US?

I don't own one, but a friend of mine is looking to import one and we need to find out where they're built.

I didn't expect this to be such a tough question lol
