Guest fleury Posted February 10, 2008 #1 Posted February 10, 2008 Are they all built in Japan? I know honda builds(assembles) their goldwings and vtx's in north america so I was wondering if yamaha maybe assembles some of their bikes here as well...thanks
Guest fleury Posted February 10, 2008 #2 Posted February 10, 2008 could someone just read what it says on the manufacturers label by the vin and let me know? thanks
sarges46 Posted February 10, 2008 #3 Posted February 10, 2008 I am pretty sure they are manufactured in Japan for the US or Canadian market. They come in a crate and must be assembled at the dealers. Its a real good idea to carefully inspect a new from the dealer bike!!
Eck Posted February 10, 2008 #4 Posted February 10, 2008 Yamaha USA corporate headquarters 6555 Katella Ave Cypress, CA 90630 (714) 761-7300 http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/company/historyusa/home.aspx
Freebird Posted February 10, 2008 #5 Posted February 10, 2008 Yes, that is the corporate headquarters but all the bikes are indeed made in Japan.
Two Up Posted February 10, 2008 #6 Posted February 10, 2008 What isn't build in Japan or China and assembled in North America?
Guest fleury Posted February 10, 2008 #7 Posted February 10, 2008 so on the bike itself...it says manufactured by yamaha motors inc of Japan? thanks
Guest Popeye Posted February 10, 2008 #8 Posted February 10, 2008 The first 3 letters of the VIN# are known as the WMI [World Manufacturer ID & tells where it was made]. My 86VR had "JYA..." as the VIN#. "J" indicates Japan. VINs that begin with the number '1' or '4' were manufactured in the U.S. My Wing VIN# begins with "1HF..." Made in U.S.A. VINs beginning with a '2' were made in Canada...a lot of Fords. VINs begining with a '3' were made in Mexico....common for many autos. The 10th digit, or letter, indicates the year manufactured. i.e. 'W'= 1998, with no letter 'O' or 'I', since they look like zero & one. 9th digit is the 'check digit' so a VIN cannot be invented [math formula is used]. The last 5 digits are a sequential 'number', indicating a 'specific' vehicle. A VIN# can tell where the vehicle was made & the exact plant it was made at, etc. There is much more to know about VINS, but some is better not being public info.
Guest fleury Posted February 11, 2008 #9 Posted February 11, 2008 right, my harley also begins with a 1 because it was made in the US...I just want to know where ventures are made. Japan or US? I don't own one, but a friend of mine is looking to import one and we need to find out where they're built. I didn't expect this to be such a tough question lol
hig4s Posted February 11, 2008 #10 Posted February 11, 2008 Japan,, my 07 VIN starts with JYA.. But I have another VIN question,, I have a trailer that the first digit it 5, where was it made?
Eck Posted February 11, 2008 #11 Posted February 11, 2008 Yes, that is the corporate headquarters but all the bikes are indeed made in Japan. OPs, my bad......
