Yooper got a problem with 1993, last fall had leak at the chamber cover so replaced the two gaskets now been working on new girl to get her ready to ride , started her today got her up to temp dropped the oil & filter went back in the garage later and the over flow was down and the oil sight glass was up almost to the top and i left it in the middle. So what do you guys think Thanks Yoop

Although the "twinkie" has been known as a major contributor of oil/coolant mix, if you are confident the seals were placed right and tight, I would pull the plugs and see if one is fouled (keeping fingers crossed for all equally lightly sooty). Have you checked the radiator for a gray scum on the top?

OK Coolant level will be different for hot and cold, cold being lower. As for the oil level, when was it halfway, just after pouring the new oil in? If so, oil was trapped in the upper areas and has drained down. Also when you first put in the new oil it does not immediately make it to the oil pan, it takes a while to get completely there...

From your description, there's coolant in the oil sump, and that's NOT good. Remove the oil drain plug and see what drains out, should be just oil, or what's left of it after the first draining.

If coolant in oil sump, then there's a head gasket failure. It is NOT LIKELY, but a coolant hose could have been connected to a crankcase breather fitting.

The oil level was haft way an hour after putting in new oil also the over flow bottle was fill to the line and now its down about a inch, and sight glass is almost to the top all liquids were new.Wonder if that pipe in pinky was not right, no leaks there by there i mean on top of engine where rad hose goes to pinky. hope i made that clear enough. "Pete, could you explain what you meant by coalent hose conected to crankcase beather

fitting. Yoop"

What I meant is that on rare occaisions, the hose fitting indicated by the red arrow is confused as a water/coolant line, when in fact it is a crankcase vent line leading right down into the oil sump. It has happened, not to me, but just sayin'......

I think bongobobny's response is the most likely scenario.

If it was me I would drain the oil, if you have coolant in the oil it wont take long to trash the bearings. When you drain the oil and it if its bubly or frothy looking you are getting coolant in the oil.

You could also do a pressure check on the cooling system and that will tell you for sure.

So was there cross contamination evident when you drained the oil?? Inquiring minds want to know! If so make sure you flush out any residual, especially in the oil...
