Skid Posted April 24, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2013 Anyone else using Ooma VOIP service? I'm trying it out after a couple friends talked me into it. They have been using it for years with no phone bills. Its free unlimited local and long distance calls but I do have to pay the taxes ($3.71/month) Nothing like a free home phone.... bkuhr Posted April 24, 2013 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2013 YEP, been using it for 2 years now. Buy the machine once then just pay federal fees about $3.60/month. Must pay per credit card account. Works great. Recommend to anyone with broadband internet connection. wired up to existing phone jack in the house, and makes all the rest of the phone jacks active to work with all your normal corded or cordless phones. I love the ability to look on line at entire call history, made or received, change caller id info of friends/reletives so instead of numbers, the name you entered shows up on caller id, and if you buy into a preminum package you can even program a blacklist, that blocks unwanted calls from getting thru. Only issue is could not get old style fax machine to work, even after tech support. Have not tried a newer fax yet.
dacheedah Posted April 24, 2013 Share #3 Posted April 24, 2013 my only suggestion is that you call your 911 centers non emergency number and ask them to test your ani-ali to assure it gives the correct information. They should instruct you to call 911 and verify the correct information populates and that the msag directs you to the correct 911 center. Next make sure you have about a 2hr battery backup on your internet router and phone interface.
friesman Posted April 24, 2013 Share #4 Posted April 24, 2013 I don't know anything about ooma, but I am using NetTalk Voip. SO far I am pretty happy with it. It costs 59 CDN to buy the unit and that includes the first years servce, the next year will be 39 bucks. For an extra 30 bucks they will move your existing number to their service, but it does take about 3 weeks to get it done. Brian
