Trader Posted April 22, 2013 #1 Posted April 22, 2013 I have an 85 for sale with a 1300 engine...obviously a newer year. I have the original motor but the PO switched them because of the 2nd gear issue. Can anyone tell me how to tell what year it is from the serial number. The serial number on the motor starts with "1UM 005 xxx"
Snaggletooth Posted April 22, 2013 #2 Posted April 22, 2013 Try this. http://www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/yamaha.asp
Prairiehammer Posted April 22, 2013 #3 Posted April 22, 2013 The serial number on the motor starts with "1UM 005 xxx" According to my 1990 Service Manual Supplement, that engine appears to be a 1990 or newer Canadian engine. You sure it says "1UM005" and not "1UM008"?
Trader Posted April 22, 2013 Author #4 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) Try this. http://www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/yamaha.asp Thanks...but that's only good for 17 digit VIN numbers...not motor serial numbers I called the stealer...who called Yamaha and they said it was from an 88 Edited April 22, 2013 by Trader
