I just picked up a set of original turndown tips for my '83, and was wondering where the small spring connects?

I have the tips and the rubber gasket but not sure where to hook the spring.

I am not sure on the MK I mufflers, but on the MK II, there is a tab on the muffler just like the two on the tips that the springs attach to. I dont have a MK I, but if I remember correctly, they never had the turn down tips.

You might need to figure out a different way to attach them to the mufflers.

Yep, they didn't start putting the attachment tabs on the muffler until '86, MKII,

All 1st gen pipes have the same tip shape so the turn downs fit them all, you just have to get creative on how and where to hook up some springs.

The springs for the turndown tips on my 84 MK1 are connected to the lower rear light bar.

If you don't have a light bar then alvald83's idea of tapping a small stainless screw is the way to go.
