alvald83 Posted April 21, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 21, 2013 I just picked up a set of original turndown tips for my '83, and was wondering where the small spring connects? I have the tips and the rubber gasket but not sure where to hook the spring.
cimmer Posted April 21, 2013 Share #2 Posted April 21, 2013 I am not sure on the MK I mufflers, but on the MK II, there is a tab on the muffler just like the two on the tips that the springs attach to. I dont have a MK I, but if I remember correctly, they never had the turn down tips. You might need to figure out a different way to attach them to the mufflers. Rick F. Snaggletooth Posted April 21, 2013 Share #3 Posted April 21, 2013 Yep, they didn't start putting the attachment tabs on the muffler until '86, MKII, All 1st gen pipes have the same tip shape so the turn downs fit them all, you just have to get creative on how and where to hook up some springs. Dano Posted April 21, 2013 Share #4 Posted April 21, 2013 Install a couple of small tek screws on the muffler where the MKII clips are and hook your springs onto that

Marcarl Posted April 21, 2013 Share #7 Posted April 21, 2013 I drilled a couple of holes through the tips into the mufflers, and then used stainless steel screws, so far so good after 5 years.
alvald83 Posted April 21, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted April 21, 2013 Stainless screws are probable the way to go.
cabreco Posted April 21, 2013 Share #9 Posted April 21, 2013 The springs for the turndown tips on my 84 MK1 are connected to the lower rear light bar. If you don't have a light bar then alvald83's idea of tapping a small stainless screw is the way to go.
