kevin-vic-b.c. Posted April 20, 2013 #1 Posted April 20, 2013 (edited) I have 2 questions, one mechanical one communications related 1.) my 2002 Venture back fires when I let off the gas. I have done a carb sync, I think it made it worse..... Ideas? 2.) Helmet headsets.... I got two sets of J&M headsets with the bike, they were in 3/4 helmets. I wear a full face helmet when I ride, I figured I could just swap the head sets over but to my helmet but found the speakers are way too big to fit into the ear ports inside. It is like having two hockey pucks in there. Is there different sets for different helmets? OOOOPS 3.) My Right side horn stopped working suddenly..... I cannot find the second one although I think it is lower left front but the pretty chrome one no honk. I have power to it... oddly down both lines....ideas there? up front Edited April 20, 2013 by kevin-vic-b.c. one more question.
dacheedah Posted April 20, 2013 #2 Posted April 20, 2013 On exhaust, do you have aftermarket or rk mufflers, my first thought is they are leaking at the clamp and you are getting a decel pop The helmet may need some foam panned out to recess the speakers, pull back the liner and you could try a forstner bit the size and take a little out, recess your speakers and pull the liner back in. Is the horn factory?? Most change out with a bad boy or steibel.

steamer Posted April 20, 2013 #4 Posted April 20, 2013 Check your rear exhaust pipes for pin holes. the rear pipes are made out of steel covered in chrome shields. they can rust through. I had that happen on my first 99. Had to replace both rear pipes.
SilvrT Posted April 20, 2013 #5 Posted April 20, 2013 I believe there is also an issue of the Y-pipe cracking ... might want to check into that. I remember hearing that "back fire" and if that's what you are still having, then it's probably sucking air somewhere in the exhaust and that is causing the gasses inside to explode.
Cheesehead in flatland Posted April 20, 2013 #6 Posted April 20, 2013 On the horn, did you try turning the adjustment screw? Mine didn't work when I bought my RSV and I simply tried to adjust the screw and it freed something up and starting working. Still not very loud but from what I've read here, that's normal for stock horns.
hubbsfd Posted April 20, 2013 #7 Posted April 20, 2013 Carbon One makes a great little adapter bracket for a Stibel air horn. They are not expensive and really look great in chrome and the increase sound is important. Carbon One also makes a wiring harness for the Stibel that makes install a snap. Just a thought for ya.
