Just had to post my kudos to Garmin for their excellent customer/product support. The power button on my Zumo 665 stopped working a few weeks ago. I don't remember when I bought this thing but it has been several years ago. I called today to see what it would take to get it repaired. They looked up my account and told me that the warranty was expired but as a one time courtesy, they were going to take care of it anyway.

I am boxing it up to send back and he said that they would get a new one right out to me.

There are still some companies out there who know how to and are willing to take care of their customers.

A few weeks ago Walter Stitt send Mike and I his tom tom that had failed thinking we might be able to fix it and have our own gps unit. With the move, working to get Mike's new to him bike I haven't had the time our forthought to post our findings regarding tom toms. Walter's Tom Tom (forget which model but it has lifetime maps) appeared to have a corrupted OS and needed a reinstall, he tried several times to reinstall the OS before giving up, replacing it with a garmin he found online. Upon arrival Mike researched the Tom Tom in question and learned from gleaning technical forums that Tom Tom had built in software code that is designed to randomly break the OS of the Tom Tom and prevent reinstallation of the OS. This problem was found most commonly on Tom Toms with lifetime maps. I don't think a solution has been discovered yet to get around the software break on the Tom Toms, but for those of you who own them and want to upgrade in the future. I would look at garmins with the lifetime maps. If Mike or I learn of a solution to the software break I will post an update.

I bought my Garmin 765T off ebey last year, I found the cradle to be defective, I called Garmin tech support and after a short conversation with the rep. they sent me out a new cradle, no charge at all. They also remotely upgraded the firmware for me. I couldn't talk him into a free map upgrade though :fishin: ( had to try)

Great company, Great products, Great customer support.

Garmin is the way to go in my opinion. I like mine and had good service with Garmin. A friend of mine has updated it a couple times for me. (free). My next GPS will be another Garmin with the free map updates.

When I read about lifetime maps I question, how often do staes/counties build new roads?

You would be amazed at how often things change. I travel weekly and use the GPS in my company car also. There have been many times that due to road construction that things have changed. Also, I've run into a lot of times that exits are re-numbered. It's not only the roads that can change but also points of interest, gas stations, places to eat, etc.

Fast service too. I boxed my 665 up and mailed it to Garmin on Friday. I got an email from them yesterday telling me that they had received it and that I should get the replacement in 10 to 14 days.

Now one day later and I got another email telling me that the replacement has shipped.
