It's time for new tires. I know the question has been answered many times before, but I can't find the answer I want. I will be putting Avon Venoms on my 1999 RSV, but I want to get rid of the truck tire on the front but have the heavier tire on the back for two-up riding. So what are the sizes for these two tires? Thanks for your help.

Thank you for your help. As I was reading, I found several people talking about leveling links. Is this a better option than going to a smaller front tire for low speed turning? If so, where do I get these links?

Some do both and are happy. Some find it a little squirly. Links can be gotten from diamondraccessories. Or you can make them yourself. I think the design is in the tech section.

Bill,

Mind you what I'm about to say is my personal opinion, but here it is regardless. I have run the narrower front on my '99 and in a high wind situation I was tossed around more easily than with the 150 series (stock size) tire. I made and installed leveling links and went back to the stock size and it was the same feeling as the narrow front tire as far as responsiveness. But it was more stable in a windy situation, my personal choice is stock size and level links as long as your not any shorter than say 32" inseam as they will bring the bike up a bit.

Ahoutzer put up the heavy load index rear tire also, thats the one you want as it's 160 lbs higher on the weight rating.

Here is the information that I keep on my computer, for ordering tyres for the RSV (the front tyre size here is the narrower one):

Avon Venom X:

Front: (AM41) MT90B16 74H $135

Rear: (AM42) 150/90-B15 80H $160.64

The prices are just what was quoted to me by my dealer one of the times that I replaced the tyres.

I think the Avons & Dunlops are the only 2 brands I've never heard any real complaints about.

I wonder how the Dunlop E3 'radials' are doing?

Anyone have any significant exerience on them, yet?

I don't think I want to be a beta tester, so if I can't find any serious feedback, I'll stick with the 'H' rated belted.

Anyone have any luck with Metzlers?

As a bike tire brand they work great on my Warrior so wanted to use the same brand on the RSV if they have been used successfully.

Popeye, radial tires should not be used on the 2nd gens. I've had the Avons on for 35k with no complaints.

WIKD, concerning Metzlers there have been quite a few posts about them cracking and throwing chunks. From what I've read they would be very low on my wish list.

Though I have never had any experience with Metzlers, I have three friends that have. All three of them have had problems with the Metzlers cupping. I'm told that the air pressure is critical on the Metzler, and even then it's difficult to keep them form cupping.

On my Suzuki Cavalcade I have run both Dunlop Elites and Avons. I found the Avons to be far superior to the Dunlops, that is why I am going to put Avons on the RSV now that it's time to change tires.

WIKD....Metzlers suck, plain and simple (at least on the RSV). I had run three sets of Metz' and two rear tires tossed chunks of rubber. Too bad, because they were a great handling tire. Mets customer service left a lot to be desired too. Avons are my tire of choice now.

Thanks guys. I ran Avons on the Vmax and was quite happy with them. metzlers on the Warrior but it's a lighter bike and they are radials so that might be the difference. looks like Avons it is. You guys are always a wealth of info.
