Has anyone ever replaced the rear master with an aftermarket master cylinder kit? Seeing as you can no longer get them and rebuilding kits are ify what's one to do when in need of a replacement other than buying & taking a chance of a used e-bay unit?

Due to the vertical position of the master there's limited options from what I've seen. That and size too.

During my searching thus far I've come across a Tilton 75 series master than may work. Of course brackets would be needed & fabricated but the size makes them look doable. With the kit coming with various reservoirs and attachments I think it could be a good replacement option.

The reason I'm addressing this topic is last fall I did a rebuild on the 83 and now after sitting thru the winter I've no pedal pressure at all. When the bike was parked for winter it had a pretty good brake so I'm thinking with the bore being pitted it just lost any semblance of pressure.

The only other option I can think of off hand would be to machine bore the original to the next size and replace the internal parts from an after market kit.

You want a VMax master and a bracket to try. It's yours if you want it.

 

12.7mm bore on VMax one. Stock bike has 15.87mm bore

 

Had it on Tweety and didn't like it much. Then I got a 'new old stock' master on ebay last year and have it on bike now, operating an 86 VMax rear caliper.

 

Still not enough on rear end though. I will need to see what The Hybrid feels like with the RSV caliper on the rear.

Looks like that could work Gary. Any idea what the effect would be with the smaller bore would be?

Going to a smaller bore on master will increase pressure and reduce volume.

 

Volume won't be an issue, as the Venture MKI & Vmax rear calipers pistons are very close.
