M61A1MECH Posted April 16, 2013 #2 Posted April 16, 2013 Here is a copy of the self diagnosis page from the service manual, maybe this helps. The manual can be down loaded here from the publications section using this link http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1828.
creole Posted April 16, 2013 #3 Posted April 16, 2013 check the cruise cable adjustment at the carburator linkage on the left hand side under the back of the tank (around where the choke knob is if i remember right). Had the same issue with mine. Was one of the first things the book said to check and was the last one I actually looked at, but was the problem. My bike had the exact same symptoms you've described. I didn't think that could be it because the throttle seemed ok, but there are two cables, one for throttle and one for cruise. My cruise cable was all sloppy out of adjustment and it couldn't hold anything. Bet that's your problem too. Good luck! Creole
