Squidley Posted February 9, 2008 #2 Posted February 9, 2008 One of our own I see I made a set of these on my 1st '99 and got the idea from BuddyRich. I always took off my saddlebags when I washed the bike as I could clean the rim and rear fender better.
hipshot Posted February 9, 2008 #3 Posted February 9, 2008 very neat idea, but i think , the same type screws are available at ANY electrical/ lighting/lamp , parts store. these screws are very common on lamps and ceiling fans. now i'm gonna have to take a day off and go shopping! lol just jt
shooter3001 Posted February 10, 2008 #4 Posted February 10, 2008 What are the sizes of the screws? I know of a lighting store close to me. I'd like to get a set for my RSV and my wife's TD.
Thom Posted February 10, 2008 #5 Posted February 10, 2008 he should put them on our site , in the classifieds and save on the ebay fees , 30 bucks is cheap , now if he was not so bias he would figger out some for us 1st gens , if 1 more Hd rider tells me how easy it is to remove his bags , i am going to point out his oil leak
hilliss Posted February 10, 2008 #6 Posted February 10, 2008 I need somebody to send me the bolts off the 1st Gen to see what I can put together for you. And some photos of the inside of the saddlebags. First person who is willing to do this for me, gets a free set!! (but you have to give me some information about how well the fit and finish is after I send it to you). If I am going to do something, I am going to do it right. We built a set for a 2000 Honda Shadow Aero. So it can be done for other bikes and models. And best of luck with finding the hardware. You can buy the bolts at a hardware store, but finding button heads to fit... that is the key! Took us a little while to find just the right heads.
Condor Posted February 10, 2008 #7 Posted February 10, 2008 I think Buddy posted a list of materials on this subject...pre-crash.. and where to get them.... Or.... am I hallucinating again???
Joopster55 Posted February 10, 2008 #8 Posted February 10, 2008 I bought my bolts today. Find it would be easier to remove and put the bags back on. Good idea.
Squeeze Posted February 10, 2008 #9 Posted February 10, 2008 The 1st Gen has quick release bags, so why would you need bolts?? Am I missing something??? only the early 1Gen have removable, quicklock Bags. The 1300cc has standard Bolts and needs also to dismount the rear Lower Light Braket to undo the Bags.
Eck Posted February 10, 2008 #10 Posted February 10, 2008 The bolts on a 2nd gen are 6mm (6) of them are 1.5 inches long (2) are two inches long (spacer) I was trying to get a dealer to offer a good price on the thumb screws two years ago, and he sent me mine as a sample to make sure they work. The price he wanted was way to high and the deal never worked out.... but I did get mine for nothing!!

hilliss Posted February 11, 2008 #12 Posted February 11, 2008 Look forward to getting them off the '86. Still cold here and it will keep me busy! Thanks everybody!

Looks like it was deleted but I found a reference to it with the part no. here http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14813&highlight=bolts in the 4th post.
Yammer Dan Posted February 11, 2008 #14 Posted February 11, 2008 83 to 85 have Quick release. Just another little thing for the Best of the rest.
GunnyButch Posted February 11, 2008 #15 Posted February 11, 2008 I made these for mine and have been in use about 2 years, they look to be about the same as the ones on ebay except I chose a tee knob. The bolt sizes are: M6X35 M6X55 and M6X30 Knob. I've sold these for $10 per set including mail and everyone says they like them. I have a few sets left and if there is an interest I would order more material. The bolts have to be ordered 100 to a box and the round 30mm knobs would also be available. I'm going out of town the end of the month so it will be a few weeks before I could get anything out, my source has to back order the 55mm length ones and it takes about 2 weeks. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/gunnybutch/SaddlebagScrew.jpg

BuddyRich Posted February 11, 2008 #17 Posted February 11, 2008 Yep, I had that idea in Oct of 05. It was posted for the benefit of all the members of VentureRider.org. Only runs about 20 bucks for all the parts from McMasters.

shooter3001 Posted February 11, 2008 #19 Posted February 11, 2008 Hey GunnyButch, I'll take 2 sets if you have them. One set for me and one set for the wife's TD. Let me know.
MrStankie Posted February 11, 2008 #20 Posted February 11, 2008 Hey Mr. GunnyButch, I would like a set also. What is the best way for me to get you the $$? Donald
GunnyButch Posted February 11, 2008 #21 Posted February 11, 2008 All the bolt sets I have are spoken for now. When I get a chance, probably about a month, I'll post and see if anyone else wants some of these and I will be glad to make some up. If anyone else wants to make them PM me and I'll give you the supplier and part numbers I have.
WilCruise Posted February 11, 2008 #22 Posted February 11, 2008 Dang, I missed it. Put me on the list for next round if you do it again!
