What Kind of Paint for Helmet ??

Recommended Posts

Posted

I got Sharon a new Nolan helmet, but couldn't find one that fits my square head better than the one I have.

So I'll just need to paint it shiny black.

Does anyone know what type of paint, primer, prep, etc., I should use ??

That really depends on what type equipment you have available. If you have a paint gun available polyurethane automotive paint will be the most durable and chip resistant. If you don't have a paint gun I would use a rattle can of duplicolor you can get at most auto parts stores. Use wet dry sand paper 400 grit or finner wet sand it add a little dish soap to the water. you won't need primer and you just need to take the shine off the surface rinse with clean water wipe with a tack rag and paint.

Thanks Redneck,

I have a couple compressors & spray guns, some bags of cheese-cloth & tack cloth. I've always heard to use Tide [powder] laundry soap in warm water & rinse before painting vehicles & saw a body shop use it.

The 'polyurethane automotive paint' is what I needed to know.

Been a while since I painted something.....what to 'practice' on?

There must be something smooth around here to practice on.
