YamaDuck Posted April 15, 2013 #1 Posted April 15, 2013 My 2000MM needs new tires. I have a little over 51k on it. I have a friend with a 2005 and he had a front bearing go out with a little over 50k on his. I have checked the shop manual and it just says check to make sure it spins smoothly. It says nothing about replacing. So what is everyone's opinion on changing the wheel bearings? Change now or wait until it develops a problem? Thanks, Harry:confused24:
slowrollwv Posted April 15, 2013 #2 Posted April 15, 2013 My bike has almost 70,000 miles and the wheel bearings are still in good shape. I do put some grease in them when I have the wheel off each time.
RedRider Posted April 15, 2013 #3 Posted April 15, 2013 My rear went out at 100,000 miles. Not good. However, I was able to limp home almost a thousand miles on the bad bearing (didn't know that was the problem). When I took the rear wheel off, all the parts of the bearing fell on the floor. I was lucky. Changed out both rear and front. Fronts looked OK. They are not expensive to change out. I know I will be changing them out again at 150,000 miles or so. RR
YamaDuck Posted April 15, 2013 Author #4 Posted April 15, 2013 That info helps, thanks but I was under the impression that you could not pack the wheel bearings on these because you could not get the the bearings. Am I wrong? Thanks, Harry
YamaDuck Posted April 15, 2013 Author #6 Posted April 15, 2013 Thanks Sylvester. I have decided to change mine. Better be safe than sorry. I ordered mine today. Harry
