zoey04 Posted April 14, 2013 #1 Posted April 14, 2013 just installed rotor covers on my 88 and when i tighten up calibers the wheel is very hard to turn so loosed off calibers and wheel turns freely, do u need to shim out the calibers on inside of forks to allow for thickness of rotor cover steel thickness
GolfVenture Posted April 14, 2013 #2 Posted April 14, 2013 I ran into the asme issue when I installed my roto covers. I bought the roto covers used and it did not come with the new spacer. I'm guessing that you did not get the new spacer with it. also. I'll have to do some checking but I should have the proper measurements that needs to be taken of your spacer.
dingy Posted April 14, 2013 #3 Posted April 14, 2013 I think if you remove the caliper and push the pistons back in to caliper body just a little on the side that the rotor cover thickness was added. Replace caliper. This might allow pads to center on the rotor and eliminate drag. Just a guess. Gary
zoey04 Posted April 19, 2013 Author #5 Posted April 19, 2013 thanx for imput my friends solved the issue venture golf sent me the specs and went a machine shop and they turned them to proper lenght:301:
Pegasus1300 Posted April 19, 2013 #6 Posted April 19, 2013 Yeah the problem is you have to allow for the thickness of the covers when doing this addition. When new, the covers come with a wheel spacer that is machined a little narrower then stock so there is no binding when the axel is tightened.
dallas27 Posted April 23, 2013 #7 Posted April 23, 2013 ive been looking for rotor cover and cant seem to find them anyway someone can point me in the right direction thanks:fingers-crossed-emo
cimmer Posted April 25, 2013 #8 Posted April 25, 2013 they are only available used as they havent been sold new in years. Check ebay and the classifieds here as some will show up from time to time. The important thing is to get the correct spacers that came with the kit or you will need to that your stock one shortened. Hope that helps. Rick F.
mbrood Posted April 26, 2013 #9 Posted April 26, 2013 You also should consider changing the four incadescent light bulbs to LED... I got my amber wege bulbs fairly cheap at superbrightleds.com. The incandescent heat up that enclosed lense and eventually the amber lens melts... as all will agree... those amber lenses just DON'T show up for sale !!!
Adavidson56304 Posted September 1, 2013 #10 Posted September 1, 2013 I've got some rotor covers on the way. Can someone tell me the specs of the spacer I need please? Thanks Aaron
