Marcarl Posted April 14, 2013 #1 Posted April 14, 2013 It's a rubber plug affair, solid through-out. Ben can't seem to remember, guess he's getting older. Anybody know where this belongs?
XV1100SE Posted April 14, 2013 #3 Posted April 14, 2013 ... just another part falling off of a 1st Gen.
Peder_y2k Posted April 14, 2013 #5 Posted April 14, 2013 From over here, it looks like a camshaft cap oil plug. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA '83,88
Carbon_One Posted April 14, 2013 #6 Posted April 14, 2013 On 2nd gens they're used to attach the lower fairings on. No idea where they would be used on a 1st gen bike. Larry
Dragonslayer Posted April 14, 2013 #10 Posted April 14, 2013 It goes in the end of the passenger hand rails that the drivers back rest attaches too.... or maybe a discarded wine bottle cork
Eddie Posted April 14, 2013 #12 Posted April 14, 2013 butt plug for next time you forget to put your kickstand up.
GeorgeS Posted April 14, 2013 #13 Posted April 14, 2013 IF, its a freez plug, there should be some Green Fluid, on the Garage Floor !! This would confirm, that theory.
abusive throttle cranker Posted April 14, 2013 #14 Posted April 14, 2013 It looks like one of the oil passage plugs which sit in the top of the cam towers. Has he had his valve cover off recently?
Marcarl Posted April 14, 2013 Author #15 Posted April 14, 2013 Had the clutch apart, the middle gear cover off, the clutch slave, and all the brakes. It must have come from somewhere,, or is it a coffee can item?
Snaggletooth Posted April 14, 2013 #16 Posted April 14, 2013 Having just spent a few days in the area of the middle gear cover and through the clutch slave I can say this. Don't think so. I think you're safe in that area.
saddlebum Posted April 14, 2013 #17 Posted April 14, 2013 (edited) I was thinking that it was some sort of bumper that sits inside the clutch cover lower rear corner for the shift rod inside to bump up against at the end of its movement. Guess I will have to take the cover off again to be sure. Its solid rubber with a mushroom head and two ribs around the barrel part to retain it in a hole. Edited April 14, 2013 by saddlebum
Condor Posted April 14, 2013 #18 Posted April 14, 2013 Could it be?? The plug for the bleeder hole in a MarkII ignition cover???
Carbon_One Posted April 14, 2013 #19 Posted April 14, 2013 Are we talking 1st gen or 2nd gen here for this item? Larry
ChurchBuilder Posted April 14, 2013 #22 Posted April 14, 2013 Is it the plug for the hole on the left of this piece?
Marcarl Posted April 15, 2013 Author #23 Posted April 15, 2013 I also vote for cam cap rubber. Gary It wasn't me Ben,,,, I did not do it,,,,,, oh crap, now that has to come apart?
99silver Posted April 15, 2013 #24 Posted April 15, 2013 Carl, I think it is a Moderator modulator, only cause Eddie already used the butt plug one....
CaptainJoe Posted April 15, 2013 #25 Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) Doesn't it SUX, when, after you've completely assembled a project.... You find one or two "extra " parts? Been there .... Done that... Question, is it essential for it to be there, or, is it an option to leave it off? Edited April 15, 2013 by CaptainJoe
