hilliss Posted February 9, 2008 #1 Posted February 9, 2008 Anybody ever wonder, or know how many 2nd Generation RSV's Yamaha has built? Saw a post that there were almost 4k members of this club.... tried a Google search, but no luck. Anybody have any idea??
Guest Popeye Posted February 9, 2008 #2 Posted February 9, 2008 Europe has a Ginormous Venture Club, all the way through Norway. I was speaking to one of them in Germany a couple hours ago about parts. They get most of their parts here & do a lot of horse-trading amongst themselves. Really SUPER great folks. Then there is the Asian area/market they call home. Many are separated by language barriers.
hilliss Posted February 9, 2008 Author #3 Posted February 9, 2008 Thanks! Do those other groups keep track of how many bikes are in their clubs? Or, how many bikes Yamaha produced? I was thinking that Yamaha might have some kind of counts, but I could find nothing at all... Anybody know the web sites for the Asian or European clubs??
StuD Posted February 9, 2008 #4 Posted February 9, 2008 The only ones with 2nd Gens are the poor unlucky souls that were not able to find themselves a 1st Gen.:canada:
Joopster55 Posted February 9, 2008 #5 Posted February 9, 2008 The only ones with 2nd Gens are the poor unlucky souls that were not able to find themselves a 1st Gen.:canada: Sorry, but there is no antique dealer in my area to buy a 1st gen Venture. Couldn't find one. :rotf:
Squidley Posted February 10, 2008 #6 Posted February 10, 2008 Sorry, but there is no antique dealer in my area to buy a 1st gen Venture. Couldn't find one. :rotf: Nice one John
Marcarl Posted February 10, 2008 #7 Posted February 10, 2008 Sorry, but there is no antique dealer in my area to buy a 1st gen Venture. Couldn't find one. :rotf: Oh yes there is, they are just a little more north than you. Just let them know and they will probably be able to find a whole yard full in no time.
Joopster55 Posted February 10, 2008 #8 Posted February 10, 2008 Oh yes there is, they are just a little more north than you. Just let them know and they will probably be able to find a whole yard full in no time. So, why,, then, would they be in a yard, not on the road like all the 2nd Gens? :rotf:
Freebird Posted February 10, 2008 #9 Posted February 10, 2008 Yamaha will not release the information on how many they have sold. I've searched extensively for that info and it is just not to be found.
qdude Posted February 10, 2008 #10 Posted February 10, 2008 In fact it's impossible to find out sales on about any motorcycle model. The give out general figures but never break it down much into models. If somethings sells for a long time it's makin money
Bummer Posted February 10, 2008 #11 Posted February 10, 2008 I had '05 #8752. I currently have '06 #10039. While I certainly could be wrong, I think it's very likely that the last digits of the serial number tell how many have been made.
AmnChode Posted February 11, 2008 #12 Posted February 11, 2008 If somethings sells for a long time it's makin money Well, in a very general way..."makin money" could mean they made enough to break even on what it cost to produce it. The concept of, any bike they sell is less money a competitor could have made. IE, as long as they break even they would keep making it to keep the sales from going to Honda, Harley, etc etc..and provide word of mouth advertising for other bikes in the Star line. Because how many Yamaha produces isn't near as many as how many Goldwings or Ultra Classics are produced (at least, from what i can see on the road here in SA). Probably didn't get that out right, but hope you catch what I saying...
Guest tx2sturgis Posted February 11, 2008 #13 Posted February 11, 2008 Back when I was looking for a new Venture, many dealerships were out of stock on the bike. The dealer I bought one from had to go to another dealer and bring the bike back. During the conversations, the dealer told me that each dealership only gets one new Venture per dealer per year. I assume that some dealers may stock more, and other dealers, selling mostly ATV's in the backcountry wouldnt want any Ventures at all. I'm not in a position to argue either way, it seems like a low number to me, but maybe its in the ballpark anyway... Doing the math would require figuring out how many dealers there are, worldwide I guess, and mulitiplying the number of dealers times the number of years in production...plus or minus lean or phat years, and other variables that we dont even know about. Comments welcome!!!
Bigfoot Posted February 11, 2008 #14 Posted February 11, 2008 When they rolled out the 1st gen for me to look at it fell over when it slipped on its on oil leak. So I took the 2nd gen.
Yammer Dan Posted February 11, 2008 #15 Posted February 11, 2008 Reckon Mama Yama has some NEW 1st Gens tucked away??
Freebird Posted February 11, 2008 #16 Posted February 11, 2008 I think the dealer that claimed each dealer gets only one is blowing smoke. I've been into several dealerships that had more than one on the floor. Now it's POSSIBLE that they bought them from other dealers but I don't think so.
awsmsrv Posted February 11, 2008 #17 Posted February 11, 2008 Just in case someone's interested, Eastside Motosports in Bellevue, WA has this for sale & said they would deal. (It's where I bought mine.) The indication to me was that they sell maybe 1 per year. They apparently didn't order any new ones since they still have the new 2006 on the floor.

Sometimes dealers trade inventory...you take these, I want those...that type of thing...thats what my dealer did...he traded off a couple of bikes for the Venture...who knows...

Joopster55 Posted February 14, 2008 #20 Posted February 14, 2008 A dealer in Hamilton, ON., last week when I was in there he had an 2008 Black Cherry RSV and he had 2 - 2007 RSTD on his show room floor.
Condor Posted February 14, 2008 #21 Posted February 14, 2008 Yamaha will not release the information on how many they have sold. I've searched extensively for that info and it is just not to be found. I think the only way, here in the US, is to keep track of the vin number for each year. Assuming the highest recorded VIN would be close to the last made for that particular year. I've been tracking sales on Ebay and quite a few of the Ventures are listed with VIN #'s. I could go back and find the highest VIN for each model year, if we decided to set up some sort of a registry???
