Prairiehammer Posted April 25, 2013 #26 Posted April 25, 2013 Wait! Mike, that PN is for Pilot Air Jet 2. Larry, you wanted Pilot Air Jet 1, correct? Are you missing the jet visible looking down the throat of the carb or the jet inside the diaphragm? The picture (shotgun9) looking at the carb after removing the diaphragm shows three arrows with the green arrow #3 pointing at Pilot Air Jet 2. The picture (shotgun10) looking down the throat of the carb shows the green arrow (not numbered) pointing at Pilot Air Jet 1.
abusive throttle cranker Posted April 25, 2013 Author #27 Posted April 25, 2013 I am missing Pilot Air #1. The one showing in the carb throat.
Prairiehammer Posted April 25, 2013 #28 Posted April 25, 2013 I am missing Pilot Air #1. The one showing in the carb throat. Wouldn't you know it... Pilot Air Jet #1 is not shown on the Venture carburetor fiche.
abusive throttle cranker Posted April 25, 2013 Author #29 Posted April 25, 2013 Which site have you been looking at? Perhaps others are better?
Snaggletooth Posted April 25, 2013 #30 Posted April 25, 2013 I'm digging here. I see the parts in the carb. I see them in the diagrams. I'm not sure I'm seeing the right thing or even under that name in the parts breakdown I have. I see the part# 14 3G2-14231-16-00 . JET, MAIN #80 (#80) in the throat as MAIN JET but I'm not seeing a Air Pilot #1 Jet in parts. Only in flow diagram.
Snaggletooth Posted April 25, 2013 #31 Posted April 25, 2013 Been down looking at my spare carbs. I have the larger jet with the screw head showing at the top. The other smaller jet is deeper seated into the body and I can not see that it is removable. No groove for a screwdriver nor any sign of threading. Our '84 & '91 appear to be the same construction but I have no info available on VMAX.
Prairiehammer Posted April 25, 2013 #32 Posted April 25, 2013 So, is it safe to assume that the only removable jet at the top of the carb is the Pilot Air Jet #1, erroneously called "Jet, Main 80" (#14) on the microfiche? Part number 3G2-14231-16-00
abusive throttle cranker Posted April 26, 2013 Author #33 Posted April 26, 2013 My bike is a '91 VR. The VMax site just happened to be what I was looking at when I picked up on this. I'm gonna look at some parts fiche views myself. I also need an idle adjustment screw and spring which I already discovered is not available at Chaparral. Maybe I'll give this Ron Ayers a shot.
Snaggletooth Posted April 26, 2013 #34 Posted April 26, 2013 I also need an idle adjustment screw and spring which I already discovered is not available at Chaparral. Maybe I'll give this Ron Ayers a shot. Did you try this number for the Pilot screw set. 12R-14105-00-00
Squeeze Posted April 26, 2013 #35 Posted April 26, 2013 So, is it safe to assume that the only removable jet at the top of the carb is the Pilot Air Jet #1, erroneously called "Jet, Main 80" (#14) on the microfiche? Part number 3G2-14231-16-00 That's right and formally, it's not an Error. These Style of Jets are commonly used Main Jets from Mikuni, thus the Text is not wrong.
Snaggletooth Posted April 26, 2013 #36 Posted April 26, 2013 Hi Squeeze. So the "jets" marked in blue, refered to as "bleed" jets and non removable and non replaceable if damaged then, correct. For future reference. Thanks Mike
Squeeze Posted April 26, 2013 #37 Posted April 26, 2013 Yes Sir, that's correct. The blue ones are fixed. The green Circles shown the PAJ#1, which is removable. Vmax is a #90 there.
abusive throttle cranker Posted April 27, 2013 Author #38 Posted April 27, 2013 I have a #80 on order from Ron Ayer. Found 3 in the bottom of a box of 'other stuff' given me by the PO. These 3 are #80 and the one depicted in the microfiche is also #80. Still can't find a source for an idle adjustment screw and spring. At least now maybe it will run!
Snaggletooth Posted April 27, 2013 #39 Posted April 27, 2013 Try here for the idle screw set. Very common. And cheap. 12R-14105-00-00 PILOT SCREW SET http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-12R-14105-00-00.html
abusive throttle cranker Posted April 27, 2013 Author #40 Posted April 27, 2013 NO! Absolutely not! I have learned my lesson about Partzilla! Never again!!!!!!!! They cost me $40 in shipping both ways for the 3 of 3 they @##%$#$@#@%'d up! And they've have my stuff in their hands since the 15th and I still haven't seen a dime!
Snaggletooth Posted April 27, 2013 #41 Posted April 27, 2013 I use boats.net all the time. Never had a problem with them on anything. Are they associated with Partszilla? :confused24:
abusive throttle cranker Posted April 27, 2013 Author #42 Posted April 27, 2013 Owned and operated by. Pick a bike on that list and see the header of the following page.
Squeeze Posted April 27, 2013 #43 Posted April 27, 2013 just go over to http://www.partshark.com/custompage.asp?pg=yamahaparts They've always been good for me.
abusive throttle cranker Posted April 27, 2013 Author #44 Posted April 27, 2013 Thanks for the heads up for Partshark. I have them on my favorites but their price was higher on the jet and they didn't have the side panel tab I've been looking for. Or I can't find it in the fiche or parts list.
Squeeze Posted April 28, 2013 #45 Posted April 28, 2013 Since they all rely on the same Parts Data, you'll find what you look for if you have the Parts# and punch it into the search Field at the center of the Page.
abusive throttle cranker Posted May 13, 2013 Author #46 Posted May 13, 2013 Well I finally received the #80 Pilot Air jet from Ron Ayers. 2 weeks it took! Wow! I put it in and it ran alright. A little miss but not too bad. I have now put some clear tubing on the drain outlet nipples (not #4- nipple broken off) and #1 has a high level in the float bowl. But I ran 22 miles and it got hot. Seriously hot! I had to run the coolant fan- at it was only 85* out! Pulled the plugs- its running lean. Only 22 miles and I can already see the white dusting on the plugs. So I pulled one of the CV sliders. Question- does that little washer go above or below the clip on the needle? It was above- thus allowing the needle to protrude further into the jet. I suspect the PO was in there and reassembled it incorrectly. Thus causing this lean condition. The carbs were off the bike when I bought it.
abusive throttle cranker Posted May 13, 2013 Author #47 Posted May 13, 2013 I found this thread which does answer some questions. But........I'm running lean with the stock setup? And you guys are lowering the needle from there??? I feel I am missing something..... http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28432&highlight=needle
