Freebird Posted April 13, 2013 #1 Posted April 13, 2013 Got the following email back from Gunkylump in response to the email I sent regarding maintenance day. He asked to to say hello to you all so I thought I would just post his email and bring you all up to date. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Hi Don: Thanks so much for the invite, but Beth and I won't be able to make it again this year. As you know, we sold our two royal stars almost two years ago now, pretty much after our vacation trip to your great home state of Texas, where we visited with many, including Ponch and gang. Sure miss everyone! We purchased a sailboat, and you probably didn't hear, but I had a serious accident while stepping off the boat last September. I broke my left leg, both bones, at the ankle, and dislocated my foot. I was off work for 5 months, and probably went back to work too early....but had no choice $$$ wise. I am progressing well, but by the end of the work week, I'm pretty sore and gimpy....so, from gimpy to gunky...all in one fell swoop. Beth misses the bike, sometimes I do. Funny thing, and here is some irony for you...I bought my first bike when I was 12 years old, picked dew worms, cut lawns, shovelled snow...saved up for that 50 cc Bombardier. I then rode on and off for some 43 years, no issues. After Ponch's and a few other accidents, I began to feel vulnerable, and uncomfortable. Once I got my leg swung over the seat of the bike, I was ok, but the problem was getting my leg there. Nothing physical mind you, just a mental thing...worried about getting wacked and being responsible for Beth getting injured. So....I sold out. Bought the boat, the rest, as they say, is history. I miss the Venture gang, the family. I visit the site regularly, but have not paid the fee. If you would be so kind as to say hi to everyone for us, and maybe just a small update to let them all know we're doing fine and missing y'all, it would be appreciated. BTW, the fella that bought our Venture is now a member, Barry from Amherstburg, ON. Nice guy, and he's thrilled with the bike. I hope you get to meet him some day. Take care, you, Eileen and the rest of the Venture family are forever in our thoughts. gunkylump

cecdoo Posted April 13, 2013 #3 Posted April 13, 2013 Sure I remember meeting him at you're party, really a nice guy. I remember reading about his plans to sail into the sunset when he retired. Sorry to hear about his boating mishap and hope he heals up quickly. It was great of you to invite him to the party and hopefully he can sneak on down. Craig
Snaggletooth Posted April 13, 2013 #4 Posted April 13, 2013 Glad he got in touch. I remember him talking about getting a boat then lost track of him. Good to hear he's still out there. Thanks for the update Don. Mike

Monty Posted April 14, 2013 #8 Posted April 14, 2013 Gunk, you need to be safe, and just get another bike. That boating can be dangerous! Would like to see you & Beth again. If you're ever back down our way, give me a holler.
