crowrod Posted April 12, 2013 Author #4 Posted April 12, 2013 It is right under #3 exhaust manifold at back of motor
Power Trippin Posted April 12, 2013 #5 Posted April 12, 2013 Looks like brake fluid reservoir for rear master cyl., but picture is very dark to be sure!
jakester Posted April 12, 2013 #7 Posted April 12, 2013 I think that is where you grease the muffler bearings....so the exhaust is smoooth..... It could be for the squelch grease so there is no static on the cb?
crowrod Posted April 12, 2013 Author #8 Posted April 12, 2013 Ok I will try to explain were this cap is. This is on a 2nd generation 2003 rsv If you are setting on the bike it would be on the right hand side behind the horn on the back of the motor, look in the space between the exhaust pipe and the oil filler cap on the clutch cover, you will see it. I can find no reference to this in the manual . They say the tranny is lubed from the motor oil ,Iam wondering if it is a gear lube bath?
StarFan Posted April 12, 2013 #10 Posted April 12, 2013 Roger. Isn´t it the one I posted above (See picture) ??
dingy Posted April 12, 2013 #12 Posted April 12, 2013 (edited) Yamaha appears to have used as much of the csting parts as they could from earlier motors. The cap in question is another port into the main oil chamber. Same as the cap on the clutch cover. It may be that a concurrent model needed this fill port, but had a different clutch cover. Rear view of motor on bench. Hole in question does not have cover plug in picture. The 1st Gen motors did not have the fill port on the clutch cover. The one on the block was only fill port. Kirby Posted April 14, 2013 #16 Posted April 14, 2013 My '99 Vmax has that plug for filling oil. They just put another one in the clutch cover on the RSV so it would be easier to use. IMHO.
