i have an 06 venture that has a miss/hesitation at higher speeds..1st 2nd 3rd seem ok till i shift to 4th..starts loosing power and you can hear the miss in the right side..roll hard in the throttle and it starts popping and kinda comes out of it. ive changed the coils on that side..all new plugs and no change..wondering if one of the diaphrams in maybe bad?

carb problem? Sounds like it. Try a seafoam treatment. Or what ever treatment you prefer. If that doesn't work, time to pull the carbs to clean and set floats. Also check diaphragm's. check for vacuum leaks before you pull the carbs. Hit the easy stuff before you dive in.

If you haven't had the carb sync checked that would be one of the 1st things I would do. I would also check all your vacuum lines and vacuum caps for being in good shape. Popping could be it sucking air somewhere. You mentioned replacing the coils, did they come with new caps on them? if not I would invest in plug caps for it as there is a resistor inside them that can get corroded and cause weird things to happen. If your battery is the original in the bike I would also have it load tested. This bike is VERY finicky on electrical power and will cause a lot of grief if the battery or charging system isn't up to snuff.

First of all like Squidley said: Carb Sync.

Check all vacum lines.

Check the Diaphrams (easy and quick to do)

Check if all the carbs are getting enough fuel.

Check the fuel filter (even though I don´t think that is the problem).

I would leave pulling the carbs untill all the easy stuff has been checked.

Does sound like a carb problem to me but there are a lot of things that can cause this. Main thing is to start with the easy stuff and move on one thing at a time. You will eventually find the problem.

I had a similiar problem and it turned out that one of the plugs for the (,,ehhh,, guess you call them breather plugs -these are the plugs you take off when you attach the carbtune) - was almost torn in half and was not sealing. Ran like a champ after I changed that out.

Wish you luck !!

didnt know if you could pull the diaphrams and be able to reuse them if their ok..did look over the lines and caps pretty well..but will do it again before i take it to the dealer next week

It's probably due to having sit most of the winter, with ethanol gas in it?

Mine did the same thing this year.

Cured mine with seafoam at 3 times the suggested rate. Make sure you run for 5 min after it's added(so it gets in the carb) then let it sit overnight.

If its really bad(been sitting 6 mos), empty each bowl by drain each carb via drain screw.

No sense running that crap into the cylinders.

Start it up, check for heat in all four pipes and if one is cold slightly tap affected carbs with end of a hard plastic screwdriver handle.

this started last fall..put in a double dose of seafoam..rode it about 10 miles then it sat 4 months or so..thought it went away after that ride, couldnt get that lucky

Keep in mind...sometimes you can't see cracks in the carb boots or hoses until you move them. Try sraying starter fluid (or some other flamable liquid) on suspected parts while you wiggle them. For carb boots push (carefully) up on the carb when you spray the boot. If the boots are hard...check them very closely. :2cents::fingers crossed:
