Hey everyone new to the Venture's, site and really motorcycles altogether. I've had smaller bikes like shadows ext., but never anything this big and now I don't ride anything but this bike. I still have two Vtwins but this is the bike I ride. Anyway, I think I have about 18,000 miles on my 06 RSV and it seems to run ok but I had a used 99 RSV before this (my first and the start of a new love) anyway that bike seemed to have a lot more power maybe it was just me. This 06 is bone stock other than chrome. Is it time to change the wires, how often and how many miles?

ALso, on my 99 I cut the D in the air box and put hot plugs, wires, K&N and cleaned the Carbs like crazy. And that bike just seemed to be a horse compaired to this one. So should I do the cut out, K&N ext. the dealer said it's not worth it?

:bobby:Thanks Scott

Scott,

As far as the wires go they are a complete set with the coils, you can't buy just wires and caps. I find it best not to try to soup up the bike, the K&N filters are a good investment. I have always used the stock NGK plugs in my bikes, tried the irridium plugs once and it didn't give me any more performace. That was a waste of money to me :confused24: I would put new plugs in it if you haven't.

One thing that I will say is that make sure that your carbs are properly tuned. If they are off, which many I have seen from the factory are, it will make the bike sluggish. I had a set of the drilled R/K mufflers on mine and that freed up some airflow. My last '99 ran like a banshee and I didn't have it all souped up. There will more than likely be others that will chime in here and give additional advise :happy34:

Thanks I did change the plugs but I think I'll do the wires too. An I think K&N is coming (Should I re-jet with K&N?) but I'm not cuting that D in the air box this time. One more thing I would like to open the pipes up for performance but I don't really want to change the sound all that much, what should I use:icon_smile_question I just got a trailer for it so I'd like to get the most out of the RSV, power and MPG.

drilled R/K's, are "harley road king" mufflers, that have had some or all of the baffles drilled out of them, to make them more noticeable/audible.

You don't need to rejet for the K&N filters. The best thing to start with is a good carb syncronization. Put out the feelers for someone in you area who has a Morgan Carbtune. In exchange for beer, you can probably get your carbs sync'd.

If you can make it to Bildars Meet & Eat on the 23rd, I'm sure you can get the carbs synced. I think muffinman is going to be there and he's one of the best. (I'm just not saying the best what! :rotf:) Here is a link to the thread about the M&E. You'll get some help with the bike and meet some great people! (And muffinman)

I heard that you have to re-jet with the K&N filters as they increase airflow significantly. To avoid re-jetting I've stuck with the stock filters and Bub slip-on exhaust. If I went with the K&N filters, are you sure I wouldn't have to re-jet? Would this not also decrease fuel mileage?:confused24:

I have K&N filters and Bub slip ons and did not have to rejet. The bike runs great. I would agree that carb synchronization is the first thing I would try because no change will be significant if the carbs are out of synch.

You will not have to re-jet with the K&N, New Mufflers and even a Dyna 3000 module. I, however, am re jetting to squeeze a little more out of the engine. I have about 1600 on the 07 and it's as good a time as any.

You will notice a difference with the filters and new exhaust. Even more so with the ignition module.

Can you say CHA-CHING? :)
