marcsmith Posted April 10, 2013 #1 Posted April 10, 2013 I have read about the y pipe repair on here but can not find a description. How do you get the heat sheild off to do the repair. Mine leaks on both sides. 05 RSV with 24,000 miles

relic Posted April 10, 2013 #3 Posted April 10, 2013 Where is it leaking? Did you tighten clamps? They leak at the weld. Both sides on my 2004 replaced under warranty back in 2008.
Hotrod Posted April 10, 2013 #4 Posted April 10, 2013 The heat shields are not removable, I used a marine epoxy stick. You break off what you need and knead it together to activate it. Feels and looks like play dough. There was a dimple pinched up on both of mine, where it was crimped at the factory.Pushed as much as I could up in the dimple and then laid laid a seam all around the rest as far as I could get to.I think it was actually leaking at that dimple. It has been holding for 3 years now and has not leaked or had any popping in the exhaust since I did this. When this stuff hardens it will be hard as a brick.I hope this helps, worked great for me.
