Well thanks...or something...go out to Flyinfool and to Deepforkriver. Deepforkriver brought up the idea to begin with and then Flyinfool suggested the Google maps.

It's not perfect though. I've not found a good way to get it to work with Iphones or Ipads because they don't support Java. I found one possible work around but it involved buing the App called Firefox Virtual Browser. I bought it and tried it but am not very impressed. It does work but is VERY slow and cumbersome to use.

I am not sure what to say other than it WILDLY EXCEEDS my expectations of what I believed was possible. It is what I had in mind, but had no Idea it could be done.

I was just making sure it was going to work OK. Now that it appears that people like it, I will be adding a link to the menu bar. Will try to get around to it tonight.

Maybe I can figure out how to do that when people become supporting members. I have it set to only be accessible to supporting members due to the personal information included.

I would encourage anyone who thinks they want to use the map during a crisis along the road, to try it before they go. It is possible, and perhaps a lifesaver, but it is awkward. Better to try it at your leisure with Wifi than to learn while pressured and with crappy reception. My impression, at least.

I agree. Also note that if you use an IPAD or Iphone, it really doesn't work at all.

Also, please note that I have added a link to the map in the upper menu bar. VR Members Map.

I hope you consulted Eck before placing it there if not you'll probably have to move it.:stirthepot:

I am using an android smart phone to access the site since I am back in Texas's again trying to move more stuff. I don't find the map particularly awkward to use, but it did take some playing around to figure out what all is there. The toughest part has just been hitting the little zoom and position buttons on this little screen. But I have only had this phone for about a month, so I am still learning it too.

First off I like the idea.

now the question, is there any way to have two entries. I am a retired snowbird I live in Naples Fl during the winter months, but I live near Plattsburgh, NY during the summer and would like to have another pin, just in case somebody needed help

Question or maybe suggestion

Will the members map show up when you click on the little globe beside your information when you post to a thread or is this possible ?

To answer my own question no it doesn't work that way.

Like others map is blank for me also.
