I have a suggestion regarding the cruise control to relax the right hand on longer trips:

 

There are a lot of mechanical throttle locks on the market, some work well, some dont. I have found something that works well, on, of all things, my Ural sidecar bike.

 

I bought a simple cramp buster, and yes, it works as its supposed to, under the palm, towards the outside edge of the grip. You can relax your hand and still hold the throttle in position.

 

But somewhat accidentally, I noticed that when I slide it towards the inner part of the grip, close to the control housing, and rolled around so that the rounded end touches the top of brake lever, it can now work as a "poor man's" throttle lock. You can completely remove your hand from the grip and it keeps the throttle applied. It will easily release when you roll the throttle forward to the off position. Does it work as well as a true cruise control? No, but its only about $10.

 

I will take some pictures tomorrow of the setup I'm using. It might work until you actually settle on something more to your liking.

I have a throttle lock and the palm thing and both work very well for me. I keep the throttle lock tight enough to hold the throttle in position, but still loose enough that I can make small adjustments without unlatching it. I have foam grips and have had a problem with the palm thing slipping a little. I started using the old double sided sticky electrical tape that has a cloth base under it and it works well.

I am dealing with carpel tunnel and pretty bad neuropathy in my right hand and would have a hard time riding without these things, especially with my bike being a standard without cruise control.

Here are the pics of the crampbuster on the Ural.

 

Miles, if this isnt to your liking, then maybe someone else can use the idea.

 

First pic shows the crampbuster in normal position.

 

Second pic shows it rolled around under the grip.

 

Third pic shows the tip of the 'blade' resting on the brake lever with the throttle rolled back (use the seam on the grip base for reference) ...yes, it takes two hands, or deft movement of the right thumb, to do this.

 

Fourth pic shows me rolling the throttle forward, (reducing throttle) and the tip of the blade will gently slide past the brake lever.

 

I dont know if this will work on the anyone else’s bike or not, but it works on this one.

Brian, thank you, but I do have several, of those and others in my shop. I do use them, but for the long ride bikes I use the Kuryakyn Iso-grip throttle boss...the larger one.
