First_N_Last Posted April 7, 2013 #1 Posted April 7, 2013 I'm starting another Trike Thread. This one is about installing an Alarm System on a Hannigan Trike. Has anyone already installed One? If so, please share! My plan is to buy an alarm with motion, shock/vibration & proximity sensing. My Trike is looking nice & I'd hate to have it messed up by an evil person without them being noticed. Ideas?
SaltyDog Posted April 7, 2013 #2 Posted April 7, 2013 I installed a alarm from this company ( http://www.internatrix.com/ ) about three years ago. It is very reasonable and works great. It has the adjustable shock sensor and a proximity sensor as stock. I mounted the proximity sensor under the plastic seat pan (it can sense thru plastic, I doubt it would thru steel). The proximity sensor goes off if anyone leans over the bike too close or leans in to mess with the dash area. By "looking" mostly up, the proximity sensor doesnt' get upset by crowded parking areas with people walking by. The shock sensor can be set at different levels to suit your needs and paranoia. The key fob remote is two way paging and lets you know if the bike is OK while you are in the restaraunt or hotel. The other features of this alarm are really handy and work as programmed. I have no connection with this company, just a satisfied customer with the product and with the service I received when I have questions.
First_N_Last Posted April 8, 2013 Author #3 Posted April 8, 2013 Step one accomplished. I bought the Alarm System. It is a Spy 2-Way Pager Remote Start Alarm System - LM209 Two way range over 5000 meters (reality - maybe 1000) Super long range monitoring Timer Controlled Remote Engine Starter (won't use) microwave proximity sensor shock sensor • ultra-long FSK communication range • two way range over 5000m • remote query functions • visual, audio and vibration alert remote control • arm / disarm bike finding • Frequency : 2.5GHz +/- 1GHz • Detection Range Sensitivity MAX : Width 2100mm, Length 1200mm • Built-in 2-way pager • Powerful 120dB Piezo 5-tone programmable siren • Learning code Brain sensor • 100% waterproof (proximity sensor is not) • Sound & LED warning light • Anti-Hijacking Function • Remote Start Engine • Car-finding by Sound & Light • Remote cut off Engine • Converts lead to gold • Arm Reminder • Learning Code & Deleting Code • Back-Ground Light • Power Off Memory • Input Voltage : 9-15V Two remotes • 2-way long range FM transmission • Four button with LCD display • Status info display • real time clock • real time moto / alarm status • LCD backlight • visual, audio and vibration alert • Function confirmation The install will be next. I plan on... - installing controller in CB case - siren bolted to bottom of CB case - proximity sensor under rider seat JohnB
First_N_Last Posted April 9, 2013 Author #4 Posted April 9, 2013 Gee... No one read the alarm specs, it seems.
Cougar Posted April 9, 2013 #5 Posted April 9, 2013 Looks interesting John. let us know how that goes for you and take lots of pics for $89 thats not to bad. Thanks, Jeff
Jayceesfolly Posted April 9, 2013 #6 Posted April 9, 2013 I read the specs...............what is your address? I have about 50 lbs I want to send to you to convert! :mo money: Jim
First_N_Last Posted April 9, 2013 Author #7 Posted April 9, 2013 I read the specs...............what is your address? I have about 50 lbs I want to send to you to convert! :mo money: Jim That is so great! I'll let you know if that option works after I receive the kit. I can't wait to try it also. How much does a pound of lead cost these days?
First_N_Last Posted April 9, 2013 Author #8 Posted April 9, 2013 For anyone wondering... I had inserted an additional joke specification into my list of specs. "converts lead to gold" Just to see if anyone reads them.
ragtop69gs Posted April 10, 2013 #9 Posted April 10, 2013 I must have read right past it I have a lot of lead too.
bongobobny Posted April 10, 2013 #10 Posted April 10, 2013 Hmmmm, which weighs more, a pound of lead or a pound of gold...
Cougar Posted April 10, 2013 #11 Posted April 10, 2013 1oz. of gold weighs 31.083333333333333333 grams approx. and 1 oz. of lead weighs 28.349523 grams approx. so 16oz. gold weighs 497.3333333333333333 grams and 16oz.lead weighs 453.59237 grams
Cougar Posted April 10, 2013 #12 Posted April 10, 2013 John, a pound of lead these days is worth $7.99
First_N_Last Posted April 12, 2013 Author #14 Posted April 12, 2013 (edited) I've planned my install & here is a description: SPY 5000m ________ Royal Star Venture Alarm Wiring _______ Motorcycle Wiring --------------------------------------------------------- Red ----------------- Battery + Black ---------------- Battery - Black w/ring --------- Chassis/Frame Brown -------------- Tied to Alarm Red - changed - now connects to accessary power Blue ---------------- Taped - Not Used Pink ---------------- Taped - Not Used Gray Sidestand Switch voltage side Yellow Running Lights Yellow (2) Tied to other Alarm Yellow ============================================== SPY 5000m _________ Royal Star Venture Alarm Component ____ Motorcycle Location ----------------------------------------------------------- Control Unit ---------- Bottom of CB case Siren ---------------- Bottom of CB case LED ----------------- Not planning on using Microwave Sensor ---- Under passenger seat Remote Start (Blue) -- Not using Disabler (Gray) ------- Sidestand Switch ============================================== There it is - my plan. Any comments, questions or suggestions Sadly... I've discovered that this alarm will not convert "Lead into Gold". Damn! Edited April 23, 2013 by First_N_Last changed wiring
Cougar Posted April 12, 2013 #15 Posted April 12, 2013 You still have your side stand on the Trike? why ya wiring to it Thanks for the ideas.
First_N_Last Posted April 12, 2013 Author #16 Posted April 12, 2013 You still have your side stand on the Trike? why ya wiring to it Thanks for the ideas. The sidestand switch wiring is designed to put a ground to a matrix of diodes that disable the starter, ignition & fuel pump. The gray wire should place a ground when the alarm is activated to disable drive-ability & efectively shutting down the bike. I believe the remote even has a button to activate a shutdown. Even though the sidestand is removed, the wiring should be there. This is a simpler less "cutting" method of disabling ignition, than wiring pink & gray on sides of cut key-switched 12v to ignition. First_N_Last Posted April 23, 2013 Author #17 Posted April 23, 2013 I started the install yesterday & got to wiring it up & testing it out. The kill line to the kickstand switch is not wired yet - ran out of time. Everything else connected as planned except for the BROWN wire. The BROWN wire must be switched 12v by the key. I connected it to the accessory line & the system works fine. It won't function if tied to the RED as I had planned. Pictures will be posted after I get the KILL wired & functioning. JohnB
First_N_Last Posted April 23, 2013 Author #18 Posted April 23, 2013 as planned, I mounted all the major components to the bottom of the CB case... The motion sensor is mounted under the passenger seat. However, The alarm (so far) seems to be excellent except for the motion sensor. I'm not happy with the sensor because it is not wide enough in its range & sensitivity. It requires continuous motion to activate. I like/want what the DEI dual-zone sensor does. I will be ordering a DEI model to use in a short while to enable alarm if you just stand too close. JohnB
First_N_Last Posted April 23, 2013 Author #19 Posted April 23, 2013 ...just ordered a "905311 Clifford Dual Zone Proximity Sensor " from Amazon for $21.36 delivered. This is a proximity type detector which should alarm warn if broken & then full alarm if persisted.
First_N_Last Posted April 27, 2013 Author #20 Posted April 27, 2013 ...just ordered a "905311 Clifford Dual Zone Proximity Sensor " from Amazon for $21.36 delivered. This is a proximity type detector which should alarm warn if broken & then full alarm if persisted. UPDATE The Clifford/DEI sensor didn't perform as I wanted for a Proximity Alarm, so I am sending it back. For $5 more I am getting a DEI 508d. I have used this device in at least six other installs. I'll be cutting the 508d harness & soldering to the SPY harness. There are four wires in the wiring harness that comes with the sensor. Here is the 508d harness wiring... Red: (+)12V Black: (-) chassis ground Green: (-) First-stage Warn-Away output Blue: (-) Second-stage trigger output I will be using only grnd, 12+ & frst or second-stage trigger. The SPY only supports a single motion trigger. JohnB
cabreco Posted May 3, 2013 #21 Posted May 3, 2013 John I was just looking at the spy 5000m motorcycle alarm for my 84 Gen 1 since I will be taking it on long hauls this summer. 2 questions: 1 How easy (or difficult) was the installation 2 How do you like the unit? I've been looking for the installation manual online with no luck. By any chance you wouldn't happen to have a scanned copy of it?
Nemo Posted May 4, 2013 #22 Posted May 4, 2013 Salty Dog, I'm using your reply about enjoying your security system by InterNatrix so I bought one for my Venture Trike. I got the model TW-1000 for $169.00. Now if this weather ever warms up, I'll get it installed and then let everyone know my opinion of it also. From just reading the owners manual, it looks to be a very precise, fool proof instrument. Also, very good installation instructions. Owen

No regrets though - better than other Motorcycle alarms I've installed (2 others). JohnB
First_N_Last Posted May 6, 2013 Author #24 Posted May 6, 2013 John .../ I've been looking for the installation manual online with no luck. By any chance you wouldn't happen to have a scanned copy of it? I've been very busy & also am getting ready for vacation. If you haven't gotten a copy of the manual by my return. I'll scan it for you then.

Thanks John. I found it online. I figure with this & my bike schematics I'll be good to go. The only thing I have decided is not to connect is the remote start. I think connecting that would be useless on a carburated bike with a manual choke! Thanks again
