Some of you web/techy types can probably answer this.

After messaging the boss, he reminded me of the Venture sighting map on the left of the screen, which I can see gets little use. BUT, said a map like I am thinking of may be possible to incorporate into the site.

I told Don to me it would be very interesting and possibly helpful while traveling to have a interactive map that each of us could put our VR.org member name on a "pushpin" on the map. Now I understand the day we live in, and recommended we only put the pin on the closest town/community/city where we each live. It would be strictly voluntary and up to you how much info you post.

I would find it helpful to know if I travel to say St. Louis, that there may be "VRfamily" I could call if my winter maintenance should let me down somewhere on the trail....

Besides, I think it would be very interesting to see where the VR family is spread out across the nation and world. I know we can sort members by state...

Might this help plan a route? Contact members for rides?

Thoughts? Websites? Maps? :confused24:

Anyone thinking about this? Can we make it part of the mobile (tapatalk or others) options?

Ease of use and little work for the boss is priority...

I will go back to my corner now. Sorry Boss.:whistling:

I looked at the "sighting" map and it tells me to use a "blue balloon" to mark a location. I think further and more for us stupid folks directions are required for this map. I would love to mark my location on it if I figured how to do it.

Just me.....

Believe its a Grate idea, although, I seem to remember we use to have one/someone proposing it before.

regardless, a good idea is a good idea...LOL

Provided of course:

Access to said map restricted to supporting members only

The user enters the data.

Would probably want to come up with a standard format for entering the data, like:

User, real name, complete address, phone, email, assist level? More????

Not a bad Idea

I know I would look to see if any members were available in an area I was traveling through

Its always nice to meet another friend

I like to say I have friends I haven't even met yet

like for some of us, who would rather drop a tent in someone backyard for the night. Like on there way up to The international.

1. Monticello florida/Thomson Ga

2. Hohenwald Tn.

3. Effingham Ill.

points south.

1. Fort knox area

2. Chattanooga TN

3. Daytona Beach

I'd like to see who's in the area,

I'd rather spend the money on fuel, so I can travel further:Venture::mo money::Venture:

Yeah, I tried that after thinking about it, Joe. Was able to click EDIT>click blue balloon>drag balloon to where I wanted itand clicked>click on newly placed balloon>dialogue box opens with opportunity to add name and description>click on blue balloon icon within dialogue box to select different icon instead of blue balloon. Most choose the green motorcycle.

I changed friesman's icon from the blue balloon to a snowflake since he don't have a motorcycle right now and is in the Great White North. :whistling:

just added mine... hummmmmmm...

didn't think we needed a google account before?

perhaps a freebird question... did you have to pass a user & password in your code?

also:

may want to clean up/delete the sightings and rename "Venture sightings" to "Venture Rider Map"? if we are going to use it this way.

:think:Ok, I can see there is some interest in this. But this is more what I had in mind:

please click on it, add a pin, do whatever. simple to use. In the lower left corner it says "to customize the map, click here" do that to add your location.

http://mapfling.com/qu833w8

I am not at all opposed to using what we have, but really like the way mapfling uses the column to the left for a current list of "pins" and provides great details.

I am sure there has to be a way to use something similar, and make it mobile, for members that want to add their information. Would love for it to be a part of this site.

Come on programmers, techy's and the like, help an old man out. But make it simple! :backinmyday:

Well, all of the above is already done with the "Venture Sightings" map: left side list of all "pins", as much details as the "pinner" wants to add and if you zoom in on the icons you can get the GPS coordinates of the "pin". (zoom in to icon, right click it, click "What's here?" and the GPS coordinates show in the upper most window, next to "GOOGLE"). The "Sightings" map is powered by Google Maps and is accessible and editable while using your mobile smart phone.

One thing I noticed about Mapfling:

If nobody has looked at a particular MapFling map for 3 months, then it will expire, and all information in it (map position, markers, descriptions) will be lost.

The Venture Sightings/Google Map never expires.

Do we all have to post the url for the new map or will it auto update all previous maps?

http://mapfling.com/qkjzmf3

:sign yeah that:

I entered a pin on the map but it didn't update the map that the OP linked to. You have to continue to "Step Three" where you get another URL to post.

http://mapfling.com/qaiziof

and I don't see anyone else except the OP pins and mine.

Seems like the Venture Sightings map is easier for multiple collaborators.
