kingtut Posted April 3, 2013 #1 Posted April 3, 2013 I am interested in putting Metzler ME888 Marathon Ultra tires on my 2006 RSTD. The stock tire sizes for this bike are: 150/90HB-15 Rear MT90HB-16 Front The closest size in the Metzler (rear tire) is 150/80B-16 My question: will this work on my bike, or is a 16" tire too wide? (The front tire is 16). Any technical tire help anyone can give will be appreciated. And . . . anyone have any experience with the ME888 Marathon Ultras? Thanks.
gmarshall Posted April 4, 2013 #2 Posted April 4, 2013 I believe that 16 inches refers to the diameter of the wheel rim. Unless you are buying a new wheel rim you cannot put a 16 inch tire on a 15 inch rim. If I'm wrong, someone else please weigh in. Gary
Brake Pad Posted April 4, 2013 #3 Posted April 4, 2013 the widest rear tire I put on my 2007 is a 190 Metzeler ME880 , but you'll only have 1/4 of an inch clearance on the drive shaft

farm1810 Posted August 17, 2014 #6 Posted August 17, 2014 I know I am responding to an older post, but the Metzler 190 would be a full 1" wider than stock. Will that really fit without rubbing?
peterg Posted August 17, 2014 #7 Posted August 17, 2014 I have an ME 880 150/90 B 15 on the rear of my 06 RSTD. It fits fine, but after 13,500 km, all this year (around 8,000 miles) it is about 3/4 worn out. I ride single and have 46 psi in the tire, so maybe that's too much air. I don't know what normal wear should be for my bike and that tire. Peter
farm1810 Posted August 17, 2014 #8 Posted August 17, 2014 The ME 880 is 26.06 dia and 6.22 wide. Compared to the Dunlop 404 that is 25.6 and 5.9. Both being 150/90-15. This according to specs on the various tire websites. The Avon AM26 Roadrider 160/80-15 is 25.1 dia and 6.4 wide. Does anyone know if there is space for a 6.4" wide tire?
