AngryAmish Posted April 2, 2013 #1 Posted April 2, 2013 http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/2013/03/31/20699481.html Wow !!
mini-muffin Posted April 2, 2013 #2 Posted April 2, 2013 Actually was 95 vehicles and three dead. Fog was the main reason and folks going too fast in it. It's on I-77 mile 6 in VA. Road is open by now. Gotta be careful out there folks, never know what's coming up next. Margaret
etcswjoe Posted April 2, 2013 #3 Posted April 2, 2013 This happened near my brothers and I avoid that stretch of road just because of the fog and drivers who will not slow down even with all the warning signs. My heart goes out to those that were involved.
Hummingbird Posted April 2, 2013 #4 Posted April 2, 2013 I traveled that stretch 2 to 4 times a year for 22 years and was lucky enough to have made it Ok despite several fog-ins
CaptainJoe Posted April 2, 2013 #5 Posted April 2, 2013 If I were to take a wild ass guess... it probably started in the North bound lane(s) That section of road is always backed up. The reason it backs up is, when you cross the bridge over I-81 it goes to a one lane road to merge into I-81/I-77 which is ludicrious! The people in Va. have known about the problem for years and have done nothing about it. That and people not being courteous, pretty much assures a backup... Have seen it backed up 30+ miles or so...
jonesy Posted April 2, 2013 #6 Posted April 2, 2013 Been down that road a few times over the years, never in fog. Did notice on I-64 that cuts from I-81 to Richmond, in the road were small orange reflectors like on a airport runway, wife and I wondered why they were there, a couple days later we found out why, hit a heavy fog in that area and those reflectors were the only things we could see, pulled into rest area till things cleaned up. It was scary for a while.
BoomerCPO Posted April 2, 2013 #7 Posted April 2, 2013 There are few things on the road that I fear but fog is one of them. Even pulling off to the shoulder of the road is not safe....best to get off the road completely. Boomer....who sez running up yer pucker factor does not make for a good ride.
